hey guys, im lookin into gettin one. i know that TRD makes em but ive only found one site that sell it.

http://www.newtoyotaparts.com/product/?id=488

before i buy i had some questions for yall. id did a search and truned up a handfull of threads. learned about how it helps engine life and performance but how it wares the water pump and cooligh fans faster. is this accurate? are they worth it? any other place to source these? are TRD the only ones avalible?

That i know of TRD is the only one that make a performance thermostat.
It does open up the valve so the coolent runs through the engine more and for a longer period.
I would say it's worth it. IMO.

false! if anything it prolongs the life of your water pump and fans as it opens up earlier! 160* instead of the usual 181*. I know, I have one. haha

You guys that are interested in this mod might be able to find the parts cheaper. I did a low-temp thermostat in my motor swapped Corolla. I have no idea if there is one for the Solara, or not. Autozone offered three different temp levels, so I just bought the lowest temp one. It was like $10. I believe it was 10-20 degrees lower than the OEM spec.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

This was an awesome mod on my Jeep. Helped with keeping the engine cool during the summer months with using the a/c on all that but I did burn more gas throughout the year using a lower temp t-stat.
