Drilling Rear Bumper For Backup Sensors

I'm hoping someone on the forum has installed backup sensors in a gen2 rear bumper and can tell me if there are any clearance issues between the plastic bumper and any hard surface behind it.

Reaching behind the bumper is easy around the license plate but I'm not certain what's behind the plastic out near the corners. The sensors require a hole be drilled then they're simply pushed into the hole. Easy, unless there's a big steel beam or huge hunk of foam right behind the plastic.

BTW I already have a backup camera but find it's not good for much, no depth perception, no real sense how far the bumper actually is to something until the picture gets really blurry (about when the camera contacts a wall...crrrrunch)

I'm hoping the combination of the two (camera and sensors) plus mirrors will help me get out of an exceptionally tight parking lot (work) when the top is up.

Universal backup sensor's are what he's referring too. and they are every where. Pyle makes a set, PLPSE4 i think is the part number?

I got mine from E-Bay. Setting the sensors up on my workbench they seem to work pretty well. A display shows how close an object is to the sensors both with a digital readout and color bars (green/yellow/red) that indicate 'where' an obstruction is located, center or off to one side of the car or the other. One downside, once you're a foot away from something the display maxes out (readout goes to 0). I'd have preferred something that measured down to inches but that's probably expecting a little much for $25.

I put Dopler Radar on my Solara. It justs fits behind your bumper above the license plate. No holes to drill. I also bought my Dopler radar on ebay for $99. Took pics when I installed it. Been working fine since I installed it a year ago.

and there is nothing behind the bumper.
there is a big gap between bumper and the metal bar
so, don't worry, just drill it
