TWM Short shifter = HEAVEN!

TWM Short shifter = HEAVEN!

Postby Ivanhoe » Wed Jan 30, 2008 3:06 pm

I just installed my TWM shortie (took about 30 minutes), and I couldnt be happier!
It took only 3 days to get to Brooklyn, NY from Canada....not bad!

It has got to be the best upgrade Ive made by far.....they shoulda made them like this from the factory.

The reverse is quite sticky to get into(no biggie)......but other then that, it feels awesome.

What the instructions dont mention is that you have to completely remove the plastic hinged part to pull out the old shifter....I believe that the pictures/instructions are from a Corolla(the floor mats have a "CorollaS" logo on them).........It's all pretty easy to figure out.

Im glad I didnt order one of their shift knobs($$$).....the factory one has some weight to it on it's own and in my opinion, does a fine job.

P.S. - Im guessing That this thread might have been better suited for the "Aftermarket Upgrades (Gen1-1.5)" section (I realized it after I made the thread).....If you want to move it, I understand......my apologies to the Mods.

But for those who love,

well.....the OEM one has substantial weight to it...

To answer your question, I have not tried an aftermarket knob.....
Im sure the TWM knobs are easier to shift then the OEM one, but is it that much better to justify the cost?.....$100 is alot for just a shift knob IMO

I posted a question about the weighted shift knobs a while back. I've become used to the TRD knob, but it would nice to make the shifting smoother since the TWM reduces some leverage.

I saw that Greddy makes a counter- weight shift knob for only $30......It's not as heavy as a TWM, but heavier then stock....perhaps I will try one out

its not about the weight overall, but where the weight is- weighted knobs have a counterweight in the top by your palm, allowing the weight to help with the throws.

I have a TWM short shifter with a TRD leather shift knob and speed source bushings and i love it!

I agree with everyone here.

The TWM shifter makes the entire driving experience a thrill. A lot more fun.

Eventually, I will get the gold weighted knob. It will especially fit on my car since I already have the gold badging.

Anyone with a 5 speed that doesn't have a short shifter should go get one as soon as possible. It makes a world of difference.

For those with the speedsource bushings, do you have the shifter base bushing along with the cable bushings?

I do

but I can't really say what difference they make by themselves since I installed everything (except for the shortshifter) when I did my tranny swap

I didn't even realize how big of a difference the shifter cable bushings made until I drove a friend's stock 5-speed camry and that thing was mushy as ass...I couldn't even tell what gear I was in

Fox body mustang 5 speeds were notorious for crappy stock clutch cable bushings at the firewall.....I custom fabbed a steel one on my former 91' Stang......my solara clutch feels good, but those bushings are cheap, so I will probably order them.........Eye8Pussies: did you get the "big" version of the shifter cable bushing kit, or the regular one?
