2000 Solara random problems

yeah. cars do downshift. even automatics. Its normal. As far as RPMs jumping, its just warming up. My car used to run at 2200 cold during the fall. I changed my spark plugs, cleaned TB and replaced the air filter. now starts at 1600ish when ICE cold in the winter and when completely warmed up drops to about 750ish.

Your car sounds fine to me. The car will down shift like other cars just to keep itself in the right power band and not to choke itself. If its doing it VERY hard then it is good to clean your throttle body and vacuum lines. On top of that a broken in auto tranny tends to shift a little rough. Normal.

Yeah i just figured it was jumping around from what she told me cause i hadnt experienced it and at first i didnt notice anything when i drove it last night and then i realized what she was talkin about lol. Its not rough, she was just bein paranoid cause shes tryin to be careful and take care of it because she moved up from a POS 93 cavalier so shes just a little protective lol
