it just started happening randomly after my 12 mile trip into town. It does it mostly at idle... it drops to about 800 rpm, raises to about 1100, then it idles like it had a big cam in it. Also if i'm cruising in any gear around 2100 rpm, it feels like the your going stabbing the gas pedal and letting go real. It's beyond annoying. My CEL came on, flashed for about 30 seconds, and then stayed on. I would have gotten the code checked, but of course..this happened when everything was closed. Any ideas? don't say the search button cuz i already tried that

could be the TPS or could also be the IAC (idle air control valve). If that is it, it might just need a cleaning. how many miles are on your car? I just ended up replacing my TPS around 100k to give you an idea.

i'm at 133k. I went to O'reileys (sp?) earlier and got the CEL scanned. I can remember the code...looked like p0404 or something, and the guy said something about the EGR valve, excessive blah blah blah. I took it to the same shop that did my timing belt and the guy there said a lot of things can cause an egr code and it would take some time to narrow it down, but the earliest they could look at it is tuesday, and i just can't go 4 days w/o my car

I had the same thing on my old solara. Changed the EGR valve and completely fixed the surges.

sweet, how much did it cost you? Is it worth paying someone to fix or can i do it myself? I work with engines daily, but buying new parts doesn't come outta my pocket...so i'm a lil more cautious with my own hehe

It cost me right around $150. I wish I had done it myself. I don't think it took the mechanic even 15 minutes!

i pulled the egr valve off this morning and it seemed to work fine. No binding or anything. I cleaned the pipe out and it have any carbon build up. So i guess it's something else. Time to bring out the multimeter :x

its an intermitten problem with one of your fuel injectors, i fix a 1997 camry with that same problem, what you describe is what i recall with the camry i fixed. in my case it was one the front three injectors, it would suck if it was one of the rear three injectors. when you fine the problem let us know

oh yeah, i almost forgot. It's the egr valve. I pulled the vacuum line off and it instantly ran perfect...plugged it back in...started running like ass. But since i'm limited on parts stores here (one checker...one o'riley) i'll be ordering it online.....plus it's about $100 cheaper than checker
