If it blinks and not on solid, you might want to check the connection of your side impact airbag (usually passenger's side) (if so equipped; look for an "SRS SIDE AIRBAG" imprint on the seat near the back tilt adjustment lever); just go through and tighten the connections of all the wires underneath the seat while the engine is off.

Mine was also on, tried the seat trick desperately trying to get it to reset and it wouldn't.

One expensive trip to Toyota later, they determined that it was a problem with the wires above the glove box (which I had removed previously to remove the factory amp from the firewall). Loose connection, they reset it but at my expense.

Anywhere you've had apart I'd just double check to make sure that the yellow connectors are properly connected.

Just be sure if you're playing with any of the Airbag connectors to disconnect the battery. They're not supposed to deploy without the key in, but they're expensive and dangerous enough that I'd disconnect the battery to be 100% sure.

I just took the bulb out when I disconnected the bag. I am tall, so I generally don't like the idea of an airbag going off in my face. Broken nose in a fender bender, not worth it IMHO.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

airbag light woes

Postby unchikun » Tue Sep 09, 2008 8:23 am

i know your pain.

my '99 has had a chronic problem with the airbag wiring connection under the passenger seat -- just about any time that that seat is moved, the airbag light comes on. it doesn't actually come unplugged; i just have to fiddle with the wiring 'til it makes a connection again and the light goes out.

the light itself wouldn't really bug me if i didn't think that it meant that i'd be without my airbag if anything happened.

My light is on at the moment too. Except I know the reason...

...Soon I'll make a post explaining what I did and why I was too lazy to fix the airbag light.
