Stock air box upgrade

Stock air box upgrade

Would it be effective at all to cut out a section of the stock box (below the filter) maybe 4"wide by 2" or 3" tall and put some window screen or similar stuff on that? Would that improve air flow? or is that pointless?
Thanks

^^^ LOL...nasa guy...yeah, that's right.

honestly, i sense that you're on the cheap, minor HP gain search....so let me just say this (having been there before)

you could remove the resonator from the upper portion of the stock airbox for more noise

you could swiss-cheese drill the stock airbox (below the filter) and maybe get 1-2 hp gain (if any)

you could also do as you suggested and cut a hole and replace w/ less-restrictive screen...but once again it'll be 1-2 hp gain (if any)

if you're just wanting a noisemaker, remove the resonator, because like i've mentioned before when talking to you, even fabricating a custom intake will likely lead to a loss of power.

if you want real hp gains, save for the injen (lesser gains) or cpe (more gain).

happy hunting bro

Thanks guys, I will probably drill holes in the box, and might remove the resonator. I don't want to invest the money on an intake right now, simply because I don't know how much longer I will have my car. AND I just got it painted to look nicer and help resale value if it is necessary. I'd really like a car with a 5 speed, I love driving standard. But it isn't in my budget right now, so I'm kinda stretched tight for extra cash. Just wondering if this was a good idea, my friend did it to his stock box and said I should do it for better air flow. Just thought I would see if he was right. Thanks for the help with this 8)
