New front brakes and TPMS

I have a 2006 Solara and I went to get an oil change, tire rotation, and brakes checked. I did need front brakes so they replaced the front discs and pads and did the tire rotation. On my way home the TPMS light came on. I am well aware of the fact that it uses the ABS system on my car. I stopped and did the initialization process thats in the book and it stayed off the rest of the way home.


Does anyone know if something special has to be done when changing the brakes so that the TPMS light does not come on???

When I got new tires the light came on but after I initialized the system it never came back on. It should be noted that this is the first time I am rotating the tires.

Doug,

Just rotating the tires will activate the low pressure warning system if pressures aren't very close to where they were at each corner 'before' the rotation. You'll want to check pressures and be sure they're where you normally keep them then reset the warning system again.

I recently had mine rotated. When they checked the balance the tire shop also added air to one tire for reasons unknown. The warning light came on a mile from the shop.

Thanks for your reply. I am guessing that is all it was. I will adjust the pressure today and do the initializing thing again.

I was just hoping that it was not because something special had to be done when replacing front discs and pads.

I had the same issue. I tried something different, As I was warming my car for the morning I held the TPMS button down for a few seconds then it blinked twice and now my light doesn't on anymore. I don't if I turned it off or what. Oh well I keep forgetting to read my book for this car.

I recently replaced my tires and the TPMS light came on, its generally no big deal, just make sure all pressures are the same and once they are reset the system. The techs I know at a Toyota dealer said, to reset or initialize the system hold down the TPMS button until you see the light on the dash blink 3 times, then release the button. This will allow the system to be set at whatever your current tire pressures are. On the 2004 solara the system is rotational therefore its based on the rotation of the wheels, on newer model solara I believe the TPMS system is actually controlled by a bleeder valve located on the valve stem inside the wheel.

This system hasn't changed since day one of the Gen 2 Solaras.

Took me 5 resets within a week of putting new wheels on. Then it stopped. Give it a few more resets to get used to the new rig.

Thanks PXLpainter, wasnt sure, thats why i said i "believe". A service advisor @ Toyota told me it might be a different system for the newer solaras cuz i wasnt really sure, so i guess he was wrong.
