Building up the I4

Building up the I4

Postby DjNoRhythm » Thu Dec 27, 2007 12:43 am

Greetings,

Anyone have any links to venders who offer performance parts for the I4?

I know that the V6 has the supercharger and I would go get one of those, but I like my car and only want a bit more for running the Portland Oregon freeways.

Thanks

go custom turbo if you have the $$$.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

it depend what's i4 you have. if you have the 5sfe then you could try to get the rippmodd supercharger. if you have the 2azfe you can piece up parts from the scion tc, and use it for your car.

I have no idea what I have other than it is an 01 Solara SE.

How can I tell the difference between engines?

IMHO, I have a 5sfe camry, and quite honestly- if you want more power, your best bet would be to swap for the v6. There isnt much potential to build that motor reliably, even with a large bank roll. Thats just my opinion though, I know some celica guys have built decent 5sfes...

I am a 5sfe guy...why I got a solara was cus of 5sfe, my last 5sfe lasted forever - hence it was time for another 5sfe.

the v6 is always the answer to sg folks...its cheaper, but to answer your question: research celica and mr2 forums.

im not denying it lasts forever, im rocking 173k miles on mine, but it sure isnt the best choice for more power- especially not through boost.

thanks for the comment. if you want to check out more pics it on this link http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=22809

but if you want some decent amount of hp n don't want to do the motor swap. the rippmod s/c should give you a good pull.

ya alot of the guys would say go w/ the v6. i would say you do a 3sgte swap. around the same price range. give you more power depending what version 3sgte, it's turbo, more aftermarket parts, iron cast. but that's what i would do.

What did the 3sgte come out in??? What models were turbo? What is involved in the swap?

I am an old school hot rodder who is new to this game so please forgive my ignorance.

Many Thanks,

The Ripp header is a good piece for the 5S-FE, or if you have good skill you can swap the cams. Really the sky is the limit, but doing a 5S-FE is not cheap. You can do all the normal stuff, and get some decent gains, but it will cost you.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.
