Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

How could it be?!?!

How could it be?!?!

I always see guys posting race stories here and while I'm not a fan of that, this one was rather mind boggling to me. So I'm cruising on the highway the other night and a Corolla (Had to be a 2001) pulls up next to me trying to pick a race. I didn't think much of the car, just noticed a lip kit and a big muffler but figured it was nothing more than a ricer. At any rate, when we start going at it cutting in and out of lanes and racing I finally make it out of the pack of cars we were by. When he catches up to me we have a straight road for us. THIS IS THE PART THAT CATCHES ME>>>

I started off on 3rd gear, and by the time I switched to 5th gear this Corolla was out. Now I know exactly when to change gears and I had about 3 runs with him but what the hell could he have under the hood for a Corolla to beat a Solara? BTW, most of his acceleration seemed to be on top end so he may have had a turbo in there but is that enough to beat the Lara?

They are lighter, with motor that has more stuff then the solara can ever dream of.

A local in my area with a supercharger and basic mods was in the area 240whp+ last time I talk to him. Keep in mind his car is lighter too.

No, it was the body style before that (99-01?). It had a nice little lip kit and big muffler, wasn't too loud like a ricer. I thought it was until I saw what it was made of, it had more balls than my Solara lol. Now that I think back, I believe it did have the red "S" but thats it, the rest was debadged. Even if it was the Corolla S, it must've had something to haul ass the way it did. 240+ whp??? Damn, thats good...I wonder if this Corolla has something along those lines. And to answer one of the last comments, I would've gave him the thumbs up but on the last run he just kept going and put the hazards for a bit and that was that. I guess I shouldve gave him the finger when I had the chance lol.

The Corolla S is the same as any other Corolla with the addition of a body kit and "sport" suspension (at least I believe it has upgraded springs, but it may just have the body kit).

The XRS is the one that has the upgraded engine (same engine as the Matrix XRS and the Celica GT-S), but they weren't available in the body style below (I assume he's refering to this one).

There are superchargers available for the basic Corollas that knock them up to around the performance of the newer XRS models (which run low 7s to 60 and can do the quarter in the low 15s).

He must have had a few other things done to it as well, assuming you have a Gen 1/1.5 V6 manual...

Yeah thats the one. It was quite the sleeper more than anything else. Yeah I agree, he must've had some more mods done to it, serious mods. I think they did come with the VVTI engine too, so maybe he had that one with the supercharger or turbo, who knows. If I see him around again I'll ask but doubt I will.

Either supercharged or 2zz swap and some bolt ons. Either way, damn. I'd be going crazy if one of those beat me. I'd prob. follow him to find out what he had done
