Does California allow National Solaras?

Hi all,

Is it ok for a non-California 2000 Solara SEV6 5 speed to be driven in California? I'm moving there from Texas and I don't want any problems.

Edit: I should add that I know they won't throw the book at me for driving a car without Cali emissions equipment, but will I have any problems with inspections and are Texas Tags going to be a problem?

Anything else I should know? I'm moving to Hollywood, so if anyone is local has some good advice for someone new to the area, I'd love to hear it!

Aside from the emissions decal in the engine bay, the V6 should have precats in the manifold and the Federal will not.

So Astro, they don't bother you about it all? That's what I got from your message, but I just want to be sure.

2k,

You won't have any problem driving and registering a non California car in the state UNLESS it has fewer than 7500 miles on the odometer or factory installed smog equipment has been removed or modified.

Under 7500 the state will NOT allow the vehicle to be registered here whether it's a car, truck or motorcycle.

There was once a several hundred dollar fee added when registering an out of state car but that was rescinded several years ago after someone took the DMV to court claiming it was discriminatory or some such. Anyway, other than the 7500 mile and having the OEM emissions equipment in place caveat there's no problem bringing a car into the state.

California, like many other states, requires you to license the car and yourself within 30 days of moving here. In fact that's a little hard to enforce as long as you stick to an "I'm just a tourist visiting family" story if you happen to be pulled over for some infraction or until your tags from the other state and/or your drivers license expire.

For those who wondered, California cars have an additional sticker showing the vehicle meets CalifEPA standards under the hood.

Cheers
