99 key FOB (keyless remote) question

99 key FOB (keyless remote) question

Postby Ivanhoe » Sun Dec 16, 2007 8:21 am

My key FOB for my 99' comes with two buttons.

The big one activates and deactivates the alarm/locks and acts as a panic button, but I have yet to figure out what the smaller button does.

From what I read by doing a search on here, the trunk on the 99 does NOT utilize a pop solenoid to open it, but rather a cable :x , so the remote cannot be used for the trunk release :(

When I press the button, the little red LED lights up, so I know the button itself works, I just dont know what it does........

Perhaps someone can enlighten me on this.....thanx!!!

I think it changes the mode so the alarm will arm itself if you forget to do so. I try to use my fob as little as possible though. It's coming apart and not sure how much a new one would be from the stealership

I have exactly the same key fob.... that button is usually "empty" for us. Our key fobs can be used for multiple cars. So the second button can be programed to activate another toyota.

Wow- the 99 Solara came with a multitude of different remotes. My buddy has a 99 V6SE and it has the key with the buttons built right onto it, like Toyota is doing with their vehicles now (Camry, Rav4, etc...)
