2003 SLE Question...

Postby SpeedySolara » Thu Dec 13, 2007 1:44 am

So I purchased an 03 Solara and for some reason there's no handle to open the trunk. I could obviously open it with the key and remote but I'm wondering if the trunk handle broke (gas one is still there) or if its like that for the 2003. I had a 99 SLE and still have a 99 SE and both have the same gas/trunk handle but then again they're from the same year so I don't know. Can someone help with this one please?

The trunk release is in the glove box. When you open the glove box, there's a button on the left hand side.

This is going to sound really stupid, but why would they put the trunk release in the glove compartment instead of the ground (by the gas release)?

Alot of the american cars had them in the glove box for security reasons. You could lock up the glovebox and prevent undesired access to the trunk.

The Gen2 solved this by putting a lock next to the truck release. Lock it and the truck can only be opened with the remote. Solved, and more convenient.

Ive seen that on some cars as well.....a little lock by the release on the floor......I agree that's a better idea.

Yeah, I had that on my 2002 Honda Accord. It had a lock on the rear deck by the speakers to prevent the back seats from folding down, and it had a lock by the fuel/trunk release.

Our Solara's have a lock in the folding seats but not the trunk release.
