Talk about aftermarket Toyota Solara Gen 2 and 2.5 upgrades.

Getting more aftermarket parts made.

Getting more aftermarket parts made.

Postby wlfpck » Sat Dec 08, 2007 11:20 am

The solara is a great car. I bought one in 05 over the accord for that reason.

I know it's my first post but I have been looking around for parts for about 1 year now. I've worked on honda's before and aftermarket parts were plenty.

What we would all like to see is more performance parts. TRD stopped creating superchargers and such with the 2003 model.

After talking with someone at TRD, they said they have no plans on revisiting the solara platform. There isn't enough demand.

This is where I think aftermarket companies are wrong. Would it be possible to start a list of things people would want and would actually buy for the solara? Hopefully the lists will be started on Toyota Nation and on SolaraGuy. This way we could hand aftermarket companies a list saying that we DO have people that want parts. There IS enough of a demand for aftermarket parts for both the I4 and hte v6. Both second and first gen. Mainly second gen. lol

Thanks,

Yeah having more parts made would be great but...We are only a VERY small portion of the buyers of the vehicles and don't generate enough profit for the companies to see worth while. However, I do think toyota realized the need for a better performing car when they created the new v6 camry. It straight hauls. The only drawback I have seen in the solara is that the new 07 doesn't share the same 268 hp v6 as the camry. I think that if they put the big v6 in the solara, made and se solara that looked sporty, and gave it a sporty feel it would not stay on the dealership lots. Solaras are great looking cars but, I personally would not want to pay the same as an altima coupe or new honda accord coupe that is just as nice and reliable and runs circles around me on the street. As soon as I can afford to buy one, I am going to get an SE v6 camry. I think the aftermarket for them still have not taken notice to the possibility of the car. Maybe the US will take note of what Australia has done to it. But thats just my 2 cents.

The new accord is a bad ass car. When normal cruising and none aggressive driving is used, it turns off two cylinders making the car save even more fuel is what I am told at the dealership. I choose it over the new Camry. Camry is nice but quality wise its drop imo. I feel more comfortable in the old one then the new one although the new one is quite roomie.

well I think the big thing is that while we are only a SMALL portion, we still exsist. But since we do exsist, we could be able to push the aftermarket support issue.

For example, the TC supercharger will work for the solara. Only thing it needs is a way to mount it and a ecu reflash.
1)no one does the reflash.
2)the TC supercharger can easily be adapted to fit the solara. I4 only.

So I think if we were able to CREATE a list of people and what we would like to see. (similar to a petition) we could push companies such as AEM, TRD, Jackson Racing, etc to produce parts for the solara. Granted they would not need to make as much, they would still be selling.

With the increase in kids getting their licenses, i'm sure parents are looking at solara's to buy their kids. That will generate a larger aftermarket support if not more tuners.

and as for the new accords... they are amazing. However I bought my solara in 05. the 07's weren't out yet. lol :D

Exactly. I did one of the walks and it did not even gather enough interest. I did not even made a dime off it and people were feeling the pain in their wallet. Reason why I did not bother doing the headers.

yeah, it would be nice though, i just dont see why they put a descent motor into a heavy car, if they could lighten the solaras up a little, then maybe we could start feelin hp

well i'm not asking people to sign up for a buying list.

I'm simpily asking for a list to be made of people that want better aftermarket support. Because basically take this same list and show it to companies like AEM and TRD as a way of saying HEY LOOK. PEOPLE WANT TO TUNE SOLARAS. SUPPORT US PLEASE.

it's just to be used as proof that there are people that want aftermarket support.

Agree

Also I do not know how long you have been tuning. It takes allot of company to make mods be useful. You can not just install one thing without something else there to back it up. Reasons like that are why TRD and other company discontinue and or do not try because theres nothing out there to back up their problem.

Like you can not install injectors without something else to accommodate it. Everything cost money so companies will not do something and hope someone else will back it up.

I get you want more support but............... Its just an another car that will not get there.

sigh... well I guess this is pretty much out the window... Guess I'll just keep my solara as a daily driver and go pick up another 91 accord and h22 swap it.

kinda disappointing though. :(

these guys are right. a few of us have been around long enough to see this same complaint come and go. dats y pipe and the kaminari replica kit are some of the only semi successful groupbuys. when richard and i tried to get only 10 people interested in the 2az turbo kit, we ended up with 2. we both went turbo, but only after spending quite a bit. i understand where you are coming from, but the main problem is that our cars are not a desirable platform for serious modification. i wish you success with what you want to do, but dont be discouraged if 50 people sign up and 4 pay.

I did the same thing...writing to TRD...Eaton Magnason...Vortech trying to get so aftermarket support. We would need maybe more buyers than there is active gen 2 members here...in fact around less than 20% (how generous !!) would be ready to pay for some performance upgrade.

At least don't forget JPP exhaust system GB !

You're a little late to the game...

All there is and ever will be for now:

This has been discussed to death. Some of us try to get manufacturers to create crap - some of us have spent thousand$ getting prototypes built with only a handful of people stepping up on a group buy.

The Solara is dead - final year of production/sales. It's not gonna happen. Best to buy a Honda or a Mustang with a large following and aftermarket support.
