CHALLENGE 8.5" wheel width

CHALLENGE 8.5" wheel width

Postby Sebas007 » Tue Nov 27, 2007 9:16 am

For the "Challenge question" go down to 4th posts

Like some know I want to buy some other wheels with fat lips (as possible). So I want to go with a 19X8.5" w/ +45mm offset...I could go with a safe choice 19X8 +40mm offset like I have now but the 8.5" would be really better.

Found a contact in US who is direct with Work in Japan...he asks Work Japan and they still can make it !! :o 2900 USD + shipping !! :o :o
It is a bit over I initially thought... I want 8.5" width wheel so bad !! I want to keep 40 sidewall series tires in 19"

I know that Ludwig has 8.5" with +42mm offset but had to go with 35 sidewall series tire...wonder if 8.5" +45mm would rub in the inside...on suspension components because it is 11m more towards suspension components ?? I know the outside would be good since 8.5" w/ +45mm is 1mm more outside 8" w/ +40mm offset...anybody could help me on this one PLEASE !?! I need to be sure before buying 3000$ wheels !!!

Following, the emails from the Work contact guy.

Me
Him

Are we still talking of Work TS1 RELOADED not T1S ??
Also I want you to confirm me in the silver if this spec still available and the price

19X8.5 +45 offset 5X114.3mm bolt pattern
or
19X8 +38mm or +40mm offset 5X114.3mm bolt pattern

Yes we are talking about Termist. can do them in silver with your spec they will take about 5 weeks to build and the cost will be $2,900 U.S.plus freight.

Nice !! But when you say "Can do them"...I thought the Termist series was discontinued refering to Work USA and work Japan website. then if they still made...I would prefer polished over silver. May you provide me a pic with the different color please.

I am direct with WORK so I asked them if they had any parts left after they discontinued, there response was yes they had limited parts and could build the sizes you requested and they could paint silver or black if you like. No polished is available and the color of the silver would be CS.

My thread had been unpopular...I will challenge anyone to explain me something.

Actually I have a 19X8" wheels (+40mm offset) with 225/40R19 tire
1" = 25.4mm

tire width = 225mm
8" wheel width = 203.2mm
8.5" wheel width =215.9mm

If both of 8" and 8.5" wheel width are smaller than my tire width...

What can be the fitting difference on the wheels if the wheels got the same size (19") and the same offset (+40mm).

0.5" = 12.7mm (difference between 8.5" and 8")
12.7mm / 2 = 6.35mm (extra mm each side of the wheel since both wheels have the same offset)

I just tend to understand something on here !! My brain compute so hard that it will burn !! :P

Until opposite evidence my conclusion remains that it'll fit as my 19X8 fiting well. I need to be 1000% sure !

What is YOUR opinion !? PLZ !!!

Thanks guy for answers...but I still want to understand it for general purpose.

225mm tire width on 8" (203.3mm) or 8.5" (215.9mm) with same offset + 40mm

I know the 19X8 +40mm offset on 225/40R19 tires FIT PERFECTLY

I THINK then we can say

tire_width = 225
wheel_width = 215.9
offset_1 = 40
offset_2 = 40

If tire_width >= wheel_width and offset_1 = offset_2 then
wheel_will_fit = True
Endif

I want to confirm that affirmation because it makes sense to me and I want someone to tell me if there is something wrong in my way to see the thing.

Thanks

You may rub - depending on the rubber you put on them.

Seems that nobody understand my question...keep the same 225/40R19 tire on 19" +40 offset wheel values are universal in my situation. The only difference are 8" or 8.5" width wheel. But since offset is calculated from middle of the wheel and that 8.5" is a bit smaller than 225mm I will have no rubbage. The 8.5" and 8" difference is 6mm wider on each side of the wheel on the 8.5"

I was trying to "create" a logical wheel rule.

Nevermind - I get what you're saying now - you just wanna strech the same tire on a wider rim with the same offest as the narrower rim, right?

Just know that the difference will be .25" in BOTH directions only at the wheel - you can measure that. The tires should remain the same.
