Buying a Lemon Car (repair history, problem explanation)

Hi everybody!
I wanna buy a 2007 solara which has a Manufature BuyBack or Lemon record in title. As i can understand this car probably has a serious problems or just minor ones like paint defect or smt. Anyway i'd like to know how can i find what was the problem with this car ? Should i contact a manufaturer or what ?

You would need to contact the manufacturer directly. They are the only ones that can give you that information.

In my opinion, you're MUCH better off getting a car WITHOUT lemons... I had to bring my last car in for repairs 14 times; the problem is especially worse when you're stuck out in the middle of nowhere (Griffith Park, winding road... Thank God there was a movie production nearby), stalling out on the freeway in the middle of traffic, or even a while doing a U-turn on a busy street.

Then after going through the trials and tribulations of being stuck without your car for 10-20 days, you're going to regret you ever even asked, and eventually grow to hate Toyota (Nissan in my case), and even the mere sight of the car makes you sick.

In addition, a lemon is classified as such (at least here in CA) if you had to bring in your car 12 times or more, more than 3 times for the same incident (2 if it dramatically affects the safety of the car, like brakes or seat belts), and/or been in the shop for 30 days or more.

Simply put,

IT'S NOT WORTH IT. DON'T GET THE LEMON.

Agreed, DON'T GET IT. It may be a good deal now, but it'll cost you a lot more down the road. Either get a brand new Solara or a "CERTIFIED PREOWNED VEHICLE".

Take the VIN number to a Toyota dealer. They can look up the cars repair record and see every time it's been in for service and what has been done to it. I checked the VIN with a service department before buying my '04. They even printed out the report for me (blacking out the previous owners name/address).

The "lemon" designation depends on the state but usually means the car has been in the shop for a certain number of repairs or not available to the owner for a certain amount of time. You'll be able to determine based on the repair history whether the problems were many and severe or just a lot of dumb stuff. Remember it 'was' the owner reporting it as a lemon which may mean they were more ticked at the dealer than the car.

I had to re-appeal my last car before they actually bought it back... CA car, broke down 13 times the first time, got denied. THANK GOD that the transmission's relay went out again, otherwise I probably would've still been stuck with the car for another 3 months (18-month deadline).

Is that a risk your willing to take? To me a lemon car is below a salvage title car. At least I know a salvage title car will not fail on me while a lemon car something is always going bad.
