Fuel filter replacement

Fuel filter replacement

Postby cgs0409 » Wed Oct 31, 2007 11:04 am

Excuse me if this has already been posted...couldn't find it on the search. Has any of ya'll replaced your fuel filter? I believe it is tank mounted...I was wondering how much trouble it is to get to and replace? The replacement cost for an after market filter is a little over $30.

Hey CG,

It looks like you've been waiting awhile for someone to answer your question.

The fuel filter is attached to the fuel pump inside the tank. There are actually two filters.

I've uploaded the appropriate pages from the factory service manual to my website so you can see how to get to the filter: http://www.gadgetjq.com/solara/2AZ-FE_Fuel.pdf

Obviously the filter is 'meant' to last a long long time and not be replaced every year or two as we've had to do with canister type filters in the past.

Cheers

Wow you gen 2 guys are located in the tank? I am so happy mine was in the engine bay for gen 1 then..

The supra are a pain. You can only go it with one hand and to replace the pump you have to actually drop the fuel tank.... gay.

It isn't all that bad. Pop out the back seat, remove a cover in the floor, disconnect the fuel line, remove a few bolts and the pump/filter lifts right out. I've changed canister type filters (like your gen1) that were attached to the firewall and a whole lot harder to reach than the in tank filter.

I think the tank filter is easy. The first one you do is kinda tricky, but its like carrying a bean bag, its only hard because it looks hard. Once you've done it, its easy.

(Bean bag chair reference works if you have ever had to carry one for a long trip (more than 2 minutes, lol)
