A/C LED lights out

A/C LED lights out

Postby Sy » Tue Oct 16, 2007 10:05 pm

Hey, it's been a WHILE since i've been back on here, and my 2004 Solara SE v6 is nearing it's 3 1/2 year mark.

I've searched all over this forum, and I have not found another thread that discussed this.

**My Green LEDS for my A/C knobs have gone out. At first it was just the middle one; now it's my left one as well**

Has anybody else had this problem, and what did you guys do to fix it. I know it's a nit-picky problem, but hey if it's an easy fix, and cheap to do, i'll do it.

Thanks in advance....

have you tried taking apart the dash and lookin for the leds, seeing if they are 'burned-out' or checking a fuse?

check the owners manual first.
the dash trim I think you can take apart by prying the outer trim out with a flat head, or use a plastic edged thing and pry it out so you dont damage anything...
if i had a gen2 I'd help you out more, hope it gets worked out asap.

Well, if a whole cluster goes out, chances are just like the Gen1s, the backlights are actually bulbs... My temp knob, fresh/recirc button and some text went out at the same time; the whole panel only had about 5 light bulbs, but the bulb had to be special ordered (only $0.74 each though). If you want to change the color (e.g. to red or blue), you can check out Autolumination.com too... They're about $1.50 each + shipping (but I was broke, desperate to get it to work again back then, and even though it's past season I still want a convertible 'Lara).

yeah, they are just bulbs with a green condom over them. Go to toyota and buy the bulbs. I know there are a couple post on how to get that section of the dash apart. Its really easy, almost 3 steps.

hey man, would you mind posting a link to that thread? I've searched all over for it. I must be using the search function wrong.

lol, that ghetto method got my led to work again.

Thanks a lot, bro.

I'm still really curious on how to take that panel off though in case the hitting method doesn't work anymore.

You'll never know until you do it yourself.

Its easy-

Open the storage compartment up that is in front of the shifter (the one below the climate controls). Reach in front of the storage compartment, right where the plastic piece that holds the cup holder and goes around the shifter ends. Pull up on that slowly and it will come out. Then, all you have to do is pull on both sides of the storage compartment and it will come straight out. Then, you should be able to get to the climate control system. Mine has the auto system, so it may be attached in there differently than yours is. Thats bout it. Its very simple to do.
