Yeah, the whole front license plate thing is (in my opinion) a joke. I can understand how it is necessary in maybe 1% of the time. And as for cops.... I appreciate the ones that do (imho) real cop work.... but ticketing cars... especially in latinusmc's case? ridiculous. go bust a drug dealer or pull over a drunk.... but i guess that would involve slight risk.. which wasn't in the cop's job description.. right? (end rant)

What's the REAL purpose of a front plate anyway? They are pointless.

If you ask me, they do nothing but increase drag and decrease gas mileage. You should sue the state saying that they are being environmentally unfriendly by requiring a front plate. :D

Mine was screwed to the bumper when I got it. Ordered the frame from trdpats4u along with some other stuff on a phone order.

Sucks having one but makes it look a little better. A friend in Mt Prospect got pinched after not having one on her Vette in Chicago for 15 years.

True that, my friends maxima has no plate on the front. No problem. Mine, I have it on mine but it was already there when I got the car.

zeppman wrote:Well, it finally happened. After driving my 05 solara for two years I got a ticket for not having a front license plate (always thought the front of the solara just looked too good to deface with a plate). Anyways, how have you guys attached the front plate? Do I have to drill? Is there a bracket that I can use so the plate doesn't sit at such an ugly angle?

Thanks!

Where are you located?

I had rigged a bracket for my girl's solara when she got a fix it tix. She went to the CHP, and got it cleared, came home and I took the bracket off. No holes were made to the front bumper, and it was a bracket that made the plate sit where it should be at and screwed on the bottom holes of the plate.

There is a old thread here somewhere were one of the guys made a bracket on his top grill, it was ugly, but hey, whatever works.

Small suction cups to the plate and mount on inside of windshield.

I've only had tickets while parked in fuggin' LA/Hollyweird so far - never stopped for it and never been a prob with cops when I've been stopped.

Now I stick it up there whenever I park in/around LA

^^Uhh, I think that's what he was trying to avoid.

If my front bumper wasn't already drilled, I'd do a stealth set up... Just drill a part of the car that's not obvious (e.g. under the bumper), get an L bracket and secure a protruding bolt on there and secure the bottom with wing nuts.

I'm just gonna go with the bracket. I just think its a crappy situation. I wish I could just put it in the windshield on the dash, but as someone said before (and what I read on the web) thats just as illegal as not having one at all. Camrazy, you think I could fight it if I take a picture of my car with the front plat attached on there and mail it in to the wonderful chicago parking ticket police? Or did I misunderstand your post?

Buy one of those cheap relocation brackets and mount it on your car. Looks better and doesn't sit in the middle of no where. And if you ever decide to take it off you cannot see the holes drilled because of how it mounts.

Its the one that mounts right on the top side corner of your grill. Looks good too. Us supra guys do it to help keep the plate out of the intercooler path.

Check out the DMV page for your state. CA allows it in the windshield if "attached" i.e. with suction cups.

Otherwise, you can fuggup your bumper and whatever - it's a personal choice and I'd rather pay the ticket than drive around with a biggass blob on the bumper. ;)
