Auto dimming mirror on 99 SE

Auto dimming mirror on 99 SE

Postby blue_hauder » Sat Oct 06, 2007 3:00 pm

I've got a 99 SE V6 5 speed. I went to the junk yard and found an auto dimming mirror off a 97 or 98 camry for a pretty good price while I was looking for some interior parts for my car. My question is what do I need to do to put it in? The camry had two wire going into the mirror but I am not sure where they went to. If I had to guess, I would say that one is power and the other is ground. Can any one help me on this one?

Let me know if this helps. One goes to the connector D1 block under the drivers dash and the other goes to the ground on the floor to the left of the pedals.

You still have to route the wire across the top of the windshield and down the pillar.

i just installed auto dimming mirror on my 97 camry, i bought the GM grand prix 2002 auto dimming mirror with compas and temp on ebay for $45 shipped, the one that even equiped with Onstar, then i bought the temp probe for another $10 shipped, and removed the stock rear view mirror, pop the GM mirror in, and ran the wire Positive to iginition ON under steering column, Negative ground to body frame, then mount the temp sensor at front bumper cover.
auto dim mirror only work when ignition key is ON, and works fine, best $55 i ever spent.

My Solara 99 has the auto-dimmer mirror but no cable is goint there. Since I put a LEd scanner, now I have a 12V and ground near the mirror. I see a buch of pins for the socket. I only need the 12V and ground there? what is the rights pins to connect there? My mirror looks like a OEM mirror, not one from another car..

thanks for your help.

Thank you very much Ruskimafia for the pics!!

Where did you buy the plug? I have the mirror but not plug, I can solder it but it would look not so great!

I'm gonna call Toyota to know the price of this plug..
I guess it cost a lot.
Last time I buy there it was to change my rear emblems, the "Solara" was $40 and the "cowboy" was $30.

Now it looks awsome compare to the "peel" emblems that were on the car and it makes to car looks younger also.

It don't seems to have an "universal" plug for the mirror.. so I don't want to pay a lot for a little plastic plug, I'm gonna solder it and use the ground and 12V from my led scanner already there on the mirror.

Thanks for your help buddy!
