auto heating and a/c controls

^^^ same here on 99 solara... this is to make sure the windsheild doesnt become foggy...

I hate the auto function too... im sure theres a way to turn it off.

A/C spends 10% more fuel. In winter i will not need it. So i would realy like to know how to turn this auto feature off... Im sure if you play with the wires in the back you can change this...

LOL.

I haven't made any experiment with the fuel consumption of my Solara for now, but my previous car, Nissan Primera 2.0 (SR20DE) really eated 10% more fuel with A/C turned on.

My mom's car, Mitsubishi Pajero 4 3.0, eats 5-7% more fuel with A/C, it's easy to find if you have cruise-control and fuel consumption meter.

P.S. The question remains - has anybody worked with this problem of auto-a/c in the "window" modes?

a lot of the air conditioningstuff, is really hard to test. mostly because the problem with the AC is that it makes the engine spin another compressor. And every model of car is different. On my prelude, it was a huge difference. I could feel the performance loss as soon as the AC turned on.

With the Avalon, not so much. And with my old Honda insght hybrid, I could easily tell the difference. It was easily a 10% loss in MPG. Thengain, it was a 3cyl with electric motor.

But yeah, it really varies bby vehicle. a blanket statement isn't going to work.
