sounds like the same way I connected mine...i believe the only reason the oem plugs are incorporated is for on/off switching. i'll have to go look and make sure...

My HID system (courtesy of RDKamikaze) only uses the original wiring as a signal with the relay harness to switch the lights on/off, otherwise it draws from the battery. Took me a while to figure it out as the instructions were in chinglish. :P

i have my solara setup with power directly from battery, fuses, and along with relay to headlight plugs, and never has problems

i have another vehicle that doesn't have relay or fuse, and get power directly from light bulb socket, it seem to blow a headlight fuse every one in while, and seem more problematic than the one that has inline fuses and relay setup.

the solara is with inline fuse and relay, i did pull the plug on the passengerside infront of the windshield to disable the DRL, works fine.

but for the vehicle that keep blowing fuse once a year, it doesn't even have DRL, it is a 1993 camry, i am just too lazy to custom make a wire harness for it. the original headlight wiring on the vehicle is rated for 55watt bulbs, but HID draw much more current (more than 55watt) during initial startup to fire the bulb, after the HID bulb reaches the full brightness, then it settle at 35 watt. i am just stating that i've experience problem with connecting the ballast to the headlight plug, my fuse does a very good job protecting my overloaded headlight circuit, and like i said earlier, changing a blown headlight fuse once a year is not too bad for me.

^ correction, it draws alot more volts at inital start up, close to 17 volts, i.e. oem plugs run at 12v.
---------------------------

heres how I have mine and how I did it for sahuddleston:

-OEM plug (both + and -) to relay terminal 85 and 86 respectivly, with a 1N4005 inline with the postive wire.

-Relay terminal 30 goes to inline fuse 30amps to + of battery terminal.

-Relay terminal 87 spliced to go to each seperate ballast with an inline fuse 15amps from the relay to the ballst.

-With each ballast, I grounded them to the car frame.

Had done this to 5 cars and no problems since.

i have 2 sets, one for my main lights and the other for my fogs..
neither set are wired to the battery except the ground on my main lights.. i have no relays or other power supplys.. these were plug and plays and snap right into the factory harness... have no problems with them and they are just as bright as any other system.
there is more than plenty of sufficient power from the wiring harness..
remember, takes even less power to run the ballast than the factory halogens
