Lubricate Seat Track

Lubricate Seat Track

Postby vSolara » Sun Sep 23, 2007 11:56 am

I have an 01 Toyota Solara SLE. It's great, but ever since we bought it, the driver's side seat creaks. I figured out that it was because the two tracks (one connected to the seat, one to the ground) were grinding against eachother. So I lubricated the track with something that said "Silicone Spray Lubricant". It worked for about two days, and then the seat starting creaking again. So then I lubricated with WD-40, and put on a generous amount. Again, it worked for about 2 days, and now its creaking again. What kind of lubricate should I use? Thanks!

lithium grease will do the trick. just make sure its the white stuff, not the black/purple.

What he said, and make sure the creaking is not the motor itself (carefully grease it if needed). Besides, unless you share cars with your family/friends/SigO/etc I won't worry about the driver's side seat too much.

I'm 95% sure its the track. Lubricating it eliminates the problem, but WD-40 and Silicone Lube doesnt last long. It seems to just dissipate.

I bought some Lithium and sprayed it on. Looks like it's gonna solve the problem, but darn, it stinks! Hopefully the scent will go away soon.

Well thanks for all the advice!

VS,

There's a TSB for a seat squeak fix on the Gen2 Solara, there may be one for Gen1. If the fixes posted here don't work you might check with your Toyota dealer to see if they'll take a look and maybe print the fix for you if it exists for your year.

Cheers

Is a TSB like a recall? I searched around but couldnt find anything. If anyone has a link to that TSB, or a place with TSBs, please let me know. Thanks for informing me though!

A TSB is a Toyota Service Bulletin. They're issued to dealers to refer to when customers come in for service with specific complaints.

You'll find all the TSB's issued for your car if you subscribe to Toyota Information Services. It's ten bucks for one day and you can download tons of information about your car or any other Toyota.

I'd attach the Gen2 TSB but it probably isn't exactly the same for your Gen1 (if there's even a bulletin for the squeaky seat in your car). You'll find TIS at https://techinfo.toyota.com . Obviously try suggestions you get from forum members first, they've probably 'been there done that'.

BTW recalls are reserved for safety related issues.

Cool, thanks again for the info! I'll give that lithium a few more days, and hopefully it will stay. Else I'll post back and look into that TSB. OH, on TIS, is there a way where I can download EVERYTHING for an 01 Solara? I'd pay ten bucks for it in a heartbeat if it would let me download everything about my vechicle.

Thanks!!!
