It's only an SE - could the alarm only be in the SLE?

philosophicaljt wrote:Seriously. You have the alarm.

Do this: Turn on the car. Drive somewhere. Come to a stop. Turn off car. Take out key. Open door. Get out. Shut door. Lock door with keyless entry. Wait 65 seconds. Reach in and unlock door without opening door. If alarm doesn't go off, check fuse for alarm or horn. If fuse is fine, you have an electrical problem.

enjoy :)

EXACTLY! You have an SE, which does not come with the alarm system, where PXL has the SLE which comes standard with the alarm system.

Hey Laney,

I see this thread has pretty much run its course but I have some new information.

By now you've probably figured out you 'do' have a factory installed alarm system. What you do 'not' have is the aftermarket TVIP system that takes the alarm a few steps further. The new info? While browsing around the "Toyota Information Services" site this morning I found the TVIP installation instructions. They show the system available for 2004-2008 Solara. Doing a search of the manual I see absolutely no mention of "Convertible" so presumably the system works just fine whether you have a hard or soft top.

You might want to look the info up on your own if you feel the need to go beyond what's already built into your car (you've found the instructions in your owners manual by now right? :) )

Cheers

I read this before I left for a trip to Utah, and finally got a chance too look up Toyota Information Services and TVIP last night. All I came across were instructions for installing a TVIP into a Tundra or Taco, and programming iinstructions. Should I be looking somewhere else for more?

I did read the instructions in the manual :) - not that I remember anything significantly different... Not by the what the manual said, but by testing, it seems all my car knows how to do is lock and unlock doors, and immobilize. No noises if someone reaches over and unlocks the door from the outside and opens it.

Our 2006 Solara Convertible has the factory alarm system. It arms with the keyless entry and will sound horn and flash lights if a door, hood or trunk is opened without the keyless entry or by using the key.

There is no glass breakage alarm nor is there an intrusion alarm (i.e. hands or arms into the car with the top down>)

Not great, but it works fine.

Hmm... Looks to me like a perfect opportunity to get an aftermarket alarm 8) ... Remote start, window control, shock detection, you name it.
