Synthetic Oil on a high milage 1mz.

I just did an oil change today, Mobil 1 "Synthetic" 10w30. The car calls for 5w30 but I've heard that 10w30 is better for it. So far so good!

I just hate that the exhaust manifold gets in the way when I try to unplug the oil filter and I end up spilling quite a bit of the oil EVERY TIME unplugging the damn filter. :P

As for the oil filter, I use the Purolator PureOne. It's freaking awesome.

heavier oil weight. itll appear more syrup like. For our cars without any variable anything, its great, but for newer cars, more of them like VTEC or VVTL-i sometimes uses oil pressure for cam changes. With the wrong weight oil, it may prevent those systems from functioning right if at all.

sorry to bring up an old thread. I just want to confirm if it is safe to switch over to synthetic oil? My car is at 120k. Can I just do a straight switch without any engine flush? would I get any leaks? and If i do, what could be the cost for fixing it? THank you very much for all your help.

if your motor was running right and maintained well prior, then yes it will be fine. drain and fill. if you neglected changing your oil or abused your engine, chances are you will just have leaks due to bad seals being exposed. cost of fixing=go back to thick normal oil and build up those internal gunk seals again so your engine wont leak.

thanks john. your answer was good enough. I guess I will be switching to that new Mobil 1 High Mileage stuff. I read on their website that it was designed for high mileage cars that only used conventional oil. So it would be fine. Right?
