solara keys (chip keys)

Postby mazen222 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:44 pm

i think that if you loose the key that turns on the car that has a chip inside and its your only key, then you might gonna have to go to toyota...

The ones they sell on ebay are programable, but you need an exisiting master key to do it. So if you dont already have one, you're gonna pay :-?

I have only one key, so i went to make a duplicate just in case at a regular keystore. The duplicate will open the doors but it would not start the car becasue of the security chip.

Do all Gen 1 Solaras have the chip in the keys, or was it an option? I cant see anything like a chip on mine and would like to get a copy.

Only the SLE has the chip key I believe. I have never seen anything but a SLE with a chip key (Gen1/1.5) Its the really really fat one.

I have an SE and my key has a chip.

you cannot realy see the chip.

If you look on the side of the metal part of the key and go up towards the ruber part, there should be a small "dent" on the ruber (on one side only) where the metal joins the ruber part... that is the transmitter.

Can't you just give the VIN and key serial number to Toyota and order a new key? They made the key, they can make another. I can't imagine that they'd have to reprogram the entire ECU at $700.

Sounds like someone is trying to get $700 from you. I could be wrong. but...
