TRD supercharger

Postby philosophicaljt » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:39 am

My dad wants a TRD supercharger for our Sienna! (1998) I know they make a bracket to make it work for that, but I can no longer find the person selling it (it was recent too i thought)

Anywoo, before I install it on the van, I am going to try and put it on my car. I'll be sure to take a ton of pics when the time comes.

So has no one ever actually physically tried to do this before?

If the s/c fits under the hood, I don't think the idler plate would be the issue. The s/c appears to be the highest pulley point on the idler plate.

^^ As this has been discussed so much in the past already, all I can say is if you want to risk damaging your engine by bolting on something that technically won't work well, then that's your choice and nobody's stopping you from trying it. If it works and you can get someone to dyno-tune that ECU and it doesn't blow your internals and you get a custom exhaust and intake to handle the air flow, and new fuel pump and injectors and most likely a manual tranny swap since the slush-box will shred if you have too much boost, then you will be a hero. A very poor hero, because that will cost you thousands to do.

I don't think anyone here has tried it because they aren't really excited about risking damage to their engine on a $20K+ car. Maybe as a few of them get older and depreciate considerably (like when the loans are paid off), the risk won't be as great to do random experiments. ;)

Good luck if you wanna try it!

I'd rather trust the math at this point. ;)

^^Along with all the money you'll have to spend, it wouldn't justify how little boost you'll be able to run

With the amount of power I am putting down in the supra, it is not even a consideration to turn the 'lara into a "jekyll-n-hyde" car. I love my solara for what it is with the array of modest mods I've already made.

If you do pursue this, I wish you success and the best possible outcome with the least financial impact. I suspect that is an oxymoron. My supra certainly performs... but it is putting me in the "poor house" quite rapidly... and I'm probably ready park it until I can allocate a chunk of time and money to it again. (Can you say "SPRING"?)

After THOUSANDS pooring into it since end of May... I have now fried an $800 clutch and my synchros and bearings really need replaced in the tranny. You don't compound POWER without compounding COST... I can guarantee it.

On another note, the CP-e w/TRD is a nice compromise that DOES net some performance with the 'lara. :D

makes no difference.

Do you guys who keep mentioning that, understand how a supercharger works? Think of a supercharger as a giant fan that blows air into your intake. Thats it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger

The only difference that will make is with tuning, and you should always tune when adding more power.

Turbo and centrifugal SC are all the same...only difference is the power source. Exhaust gas vs engine pulley
