Rolled Fender Questions.

Went to a local shop to discuss rolling or cutting my rear fenders. The guy pointed out the seam on that edge saying that it was a layer of "caulk" covering the spot welds. He said that if it's that's cut off that the connection between the two sheets of metal will be free floating and could be an issue down the road.

That would leave rolling out the edge inboard of the seam (lame since it's only like 1/8") or cutting just that edge off.

He also claimed that using a roller could warp/flare the 1" of flat steel surrounding the wheel.

Sounds like he's maybe overcomplicating things. Anyone (Milt) have tips on a proven method (Milt) and maybe want to debunk this guys claims (Milt). Where did you cut? Got any pics of Posh's edge?

Meanwhile I think the front wells are good as they are. They seem pre-rolled. Only the rear has a nasty sharp edge sticking in 1/2" to slice up my sidewall (I'm taking corners like a grandma until I get this settled... ugh!)

Yeah - I used a cuttoff wheel to trim mine, then re-caulked the edges the seal it. Not sure it's perfect anyway, but it does the trick at least. Hope to eventually get it repainted - if not some new fender flares created some day if I'm ambitious enough (and have the time/$$ to do it!) ;)

... and you don't get a g37 first.

A cutoff wheel? Please elaborate.

I have a cutting tool with little 3" "grinder" wheels that go on it. (A dremel isn't big/powerful enough to do the job.) I tried using a cutting bit but not as much control of it and didn't want to blow out the side of my fender.

Still kinda scary - one slip and you're hosed! ;)

i used the dremel cut off wheel.

I purchased the stick screw thing and the disk set...

before i was even able to finish the 2nd fender.. the screw and stick broke off.. i have 2 disk out of 5 left and no attachment...

dremel cut off tool is weak. if u should, use something stronger...

And what did you use to seal off the cut?

Found another slice in the sidewall yesterday. Probably from hitting a pot hole since I'm not taking crazy corners.

Well I probably won't take a cutting disc to my car by myself. But that should be a cheap solution to have someone else do. (someone I can sue if it goes wrong) 8) Even better if it's someone that can lay down a couple welds on the edge to keep things together.

I'll have to check out my regular body shop. They should be able to swing that.

No drop yet, but I put G35 19" rims on.

The guy who's buying my truck has a shop and wants to do it with a saw blade thinking it will create less heat than a wheel. He's checking with a paint expert he knows for the best sealant for the cut. He seems to know what he's doing. Has to be a reciprocating saw (showed me the blade) and that worries me a bit with the vibrations and such.
