manual transmission swap possible?

manual transmission swap possible?

Are there any manual transmissions that are even remotely close to bolting up with our motors? I would easily blow up my trans and do a 5speed or 6spd manual transmission swap.

Does the Tacoma 4.0L V6 6Speed manual fit? I know the block is different, but by how much? It comes in the X-Runner and the DoubleCab 4x4. And the FJ.

This has been discussed to death here... and few have attempted it so far.

Looks like the only option is the manual that came on the Gen 1-1.5 V6 Solara (pre-2004) since it's a direct bolt-on to the block, but there are other factors you have to consider as far as the VVTi ECU, etc...

Do a little snooping around... and check out the discussion over at Toyota Nation as well.

I doubt the Tacoma tranny would work at all - and it would be geared for a truck anyway. ;)

No i don't think the Fj or Tacoma transmission would fit in your gen 2. I was thinking about a swap for my gen 1, but i think i'm just gonna try to find a gen 1 or 1.5 5 speed and trade my car in. If you want to swap to a manual maybe you should just trade it in for a gen 2 se sport model

I did a lot of searches on this site,. and came up with almost nothing.

So what issues would arrise if I did the Gen 1.5 trans?

Ask Milt or Sebas - they've done the most research on this as discussed in other threads...

Depending on where you live - where you get your parts - and your mechanical expertise, there's so much more involved than just swapping out the tranny. Clutch, pedals, axle, linkage, shifter, ECU, etc... not to mention LABOR.

If you have lots and lots of money and can afford the down-time, then go for it. Otherwise, it looks like we bought the wrong car and have to live with it.
