Got the HVAC controls converted over to LED. Also installed my new deck. I got a new Pioneer. I chose it because it was the only one I could find that was blue, also its got good specs. I thought the stock JBL was good, this thing sounds way better! :o

I dunno if im going to bother converting the clock to blue. I'd like to, but I really have no idea on how to make it blue.

Here is how to change the color of the vent controls. http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?p=401594#401594

Its not easy, but it is doable.

Here another picture or two, I think it was worth it... Its very blue now 8)

I have had similar issues as well, with various LED types. As near as I can tell, the newer ones with the heatsink on them are okay for dash use - most of the problems with the flickering on LEDs is due to heat.

I'm going to give these a try in white and see how they do - I'm using the Xenon-type "white" bulbs and they're okay, but kinda dim.

phew, finally someone who has had the same problems as me! hehe

yeah, ive read on other forums about people using LEDs where they burn out or start flickering. After inspection of the old ones, it does seem to be burnt out from the heat. I'm still wary as even though they have a heatsink on them, it could still be a bandaid fix and not really looking to shell out a large sum of cash to swap all and test it out.

Duffman, let me know how it goes with any other type of LEDs. I've tried those normal bulbs and they are dim compared to those ultra bright LEDs.

I have just finished the gauge with white LEDs and it is very beautiful.
I ve tried with regular bulbs “ultra white”, and they are very bad, the result was very disappointing, the color was white-yellow.

I've used the "eurolite" 194 white LED for the gauges.

I also changed the ignition for a single white LED with a 440 ohms resistor, this cost me 0$ because I already got it years before.

Now I wanna try the central console.. it seems harder.

If you want I can take pics of my white gauges and ignition, to see the difference. Since my car is white, I like it better then blue or red.

If you could take pics would really help :) since I was going to do exactly the same as you, purchasing the ultra white bulbs since I wanted it to be white. Just want to see how it actually looks like before I even try it myself.

oh and for those who have the 194 bulbs.. your right.. they are not as bright..
the 168 bulbs are relatively the same but put out about 1.5x more light than the 194.. however, the LEDs will still probly be brighter
i did that years ago with my 240sx

I (tryed) take pictures of my white LED gauges, it's not my digital cam, Im sorry for the poor quality.

I took lots of pictures, some are too "blue" compare to the reality, but you will get an idea of what it looks like.

Kenz wrote:Got my blue bulbs in, was an easy project. They look really nice, they put out almost a neon blue glow. Much better then the faded green that is stock.
I used the LED bulbs that have four LEDs on each side, and one in the middle. I have heard a few people say they won't work well. I have to disagree, they look brighter then it was before, and don't have any bright spots. The dimmer still works fine.

IDK why the pictures don't look very good. But in person the gauges look much smoother and more blue.

I'm going to take apart the vent controls in a few days and solder in blue LEDS. Ill post how to do that with pictures probably later this week.

looks good man, did you use LED bulbs and replace or solder? cant wait to see the write up
