License Plate LED

License Plate LED

Postby someazn » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:00 am

So my license plate LED's just burned out after one year of limited use (superbrightleds.com) and was looking around for some new ones. I really did not like the light output because the bulb sits sideways and all the light is focused in the wrong direction. I stumbled upon these bulbs that look like that COULD work to give better uniform light, but wanted everyone elses opinion on them.

What do y'all think? Would they aim correctly?

Hmmm - I have some of the Superbright LEDs for my lic plate too, but haven't installed them yet. These look promising though...

Our license plate bulb holders are not very well built...the light bulb sits face sideways with the lense stuck up right against the license bulb holder, generating a lot of heat...Plus, the bulb can not be longer than 22mm...LED bulbs focus light in one direction, and with the bulb sitting sideways, you get an X for your license plate light. These bulbs look promising, but will the light be focused straight and proper?

I have a set of Pep Boys bought LEDs, and they have kind of a shaped end, kinda like an "M" shape where it dimples into the center. So far, the light DOES spread pretty evenly, and the times I looked at it it doesn't have any weird patterns, although since the light is pretty dim it is slightly shadowed by the screws of the license plate.

Well, I noticed anything from the North West might take a while... My dad lives in the city of Portland and stuff that he mails by standard post takes around 5 days.

i know!~ i love it~ heheh
but then.. somehow, i donno why, the image tend to show brighter than reality,
probably it has to do with my digi cam
the light is focusing on the ground more than on the license plate

overall, the light is shinning, but license plate seems darker

Sorry I forgot to update you guys on this, but I ordered the same bulbs as boaclub923 and I must agree, the light is shining on the ground more than the license plate. It's brighter on the sides than it is in the middle of the license plate but at least it gets the job done. It's pretty bright, but hopefully they won't flicker.
