All my warning lights turn on when I start the car?

All my warning lights turn on when I start the car?

Postby RDKamikaze » Wed Aug 29, 2007 1:38 am

Ok, at first I thought this was just a little fluke that happened every once in a while. For the past two weeks, my warning lights (e-brake, tire pressure, and another) would just turn on random times that I turned my car on. To fix it, I would turn teh car off and back on. Ususally, the lights would go away after that. Now, this problem is occuring almost every time I turn my car on! What's going on, is that some sort of code that I don't know yet?

Also, for the first time, my speedometer wasn't working when the lights all turned on once! I stopped off the side of the road, turned my car off and on, and it worked fine again. Other problems during these lights being on include my car being in neutral when it's in reverse (I hit the gas and nothing happens) and SLOW accelleration.

Has anyone else had this problem yet? I'm trying to figure out why my poor baby is freaking out on me, but I can't come up with a conclusion!

It sounds like an electrical/computer problem to me. :( BTW - sorry I didn't respond to your IM. I was sleeping. Remember, there's a 3 hour difference between us. :)

I think you need to take it to a mechanic... my guess is electrical/alternator issues.

I think the car is pissed because you're trying to sell it. Machines know these things...ya know? :D

Actually it sounds like you have a faulty electrical connection, probably a ground. I'd start with the battery even though your car is starting ok.

Disconnect both terminals (ground first) and clean both the battery and cable side throughly then reconnect. That one simple thing can frequently fix mysterious electrical troubles.

If that doesn't work you're going to have to chase after a bad connection.

Cheers

The first problem I came up with as well was a bad wiring or ECU connection to ground, and that's what a few other people agreed to. I'm hoping all I need is to fully charge my battery (I think I left my inside lights on one night) or even get it replaced. It's just weird how this problem can just appear out of nowhere from any other reason, yeah?

The problem occurs for you with parking in the light? Weird, because I'm noticing that it happened ONLY at night yesterday. In the day time, it was perfectly fine and the CEL went away, but then once night hit, bam! There were all the hazards and the CEL again. I just noticed it yesterday, so I'm not sure if it's a pattern yet.

Input on that?

IF the CEL light comes on, take it to autozone or whatever and have them read the codes. Let me know what hte code is and i'll tell you what the manuals say to do about fixing it.

Battery, then batt connections, then alternator, then mechanic.
