Pealing Out

When I first got the car, it wouldn't peal out very easily and when it did, it would hop excessively.

I've noticed that now-a-days, pealing out is very easy to do and the only time there is wheel-hop, is if there is water on the road. When dry, it will just squeal the tires up to about 20-30mph.

I personally do not like to peal out. Tires are expensive but occasionally it is fun, or helps relieve stress.

I guess I'm curious about other V6 Gen 2's handle pealing out.

It may be a lame topic, but I do not recall it ever being discussed in here before.

It was pretty easy to do in mine, especially after the throttle lag fix... And then easier so when I popped on the CP-E...

Mine never really squealed since I got rid of the stock wheels... After I put on the 18"s with Michelin Pilot Sports (and later Avon Techs) it would be smooth and quiet as the tires fried...

For one thing, it's easier to do as your tires get older / wear down... Different tires also have different effects, as some tires hold to the ground a lot better than others...

Wheel hop is a common problem with FF cars (and even some FR cars such as the last generation Mustangs)... Watch doing it too much, it can be very damaging... The TRD springs / SE Sport struts cut down on it quite a bit compared to an SLE I test drove, but did not fully eliminate it...

Kinda odd that you'd experience more wheel hop on a wet road than dry, it was usually the opposite for me (and seems like it should be, as wet roads are slicker and should allow complete loss of grip rather than stick-and-bounce)...

You mean "peel"? and have you changed your tires? Thats probably the cause. Or a sloppy transmission?

If you turn off the Trac it won't hop as much. Older tires/different compounds will burn out more than others too. Really has nothing to do with "power" in these boats!

The tires are about 6 months old, wider and they have more grip than the factory tires did.

But the change happened when I was on factory tires. At first no peeling out because of the wheel-hop, but as time went buy, peeling out got easier. I thought it was because the tires were getting bald. But, with the new tires, it still has no problem breaking them loose.

Yeah, it seems like I would get less hop when wet, but really, I do not even try to peal out when the tires are wet. The wheel hop seems so bad for the car.

Like tonight... about 95 degrees out, and spinning the tires on hot, dry pavement up to about 30mph was not a problem. It's just a smooth screech.

Maybe the ECU flash was what changed that. Before the flash - no peelout unless wheel hop counts and after the flash, almost too much peeling out.

Oh, and I don't have the traction control. I think that is only on the SLE, not sure.

Yeah, I don't think power has anything to do with it. It's the lack of grip at a quick start to begin pulling the bigass car behind it.

Although I only drive a Gen1, I CAN say it's flippin fun to peel out when you had a crappy day at work. Since I'm broke, I can only afford used tires and have something with 80% tread for about $28/wheel.

Anycrap, since my car is stock and a few HP/torque less than a Gen2, I do this ritual(miss one step and you'll only look like a high-revving boob): Pull up the e-brake, tilt your steering wheel to the left by 90 degrees (missed this step at a meet, but the further the better), heel-toe your brakes and gas (but don't bring it TOO high, 1200 is good enough), then rapidly slip your foot off the gas and floor it... When I got laid off from my old gig I left them a piece of my mind... a good 20 foot trail of rubber into the sunset .
