How to increase idle speed

I have my 2002 2.4L I4 and it's idling a little on the low side... My Viper alarm's auto-start rev protection kicks in if I have the AC on full blast and the car is already warmmed up. Just wondering where to adjust the idle back up to normal? Do I tighten the trottle cable, or adjust a nut? I've read elsewhere on the forums about taking off the intake, and cleaning it out or something, But this '02 only has 38K miles on it, and it was taken care of.

If it's something I'm going to have to go into the shop for, do any of you guys/gals wanna give me a guesstamate as to how much it'll cost to have the idle cranked up a couple-o-hundred RPMs?

The 2.4L i4 is a drive by wire.

There is no throttle cable to adjust this.
the idle is auto adjusting to the ECM. Its all sensors...

If its idle low then I would suggest cleaning your air filter or getting the high flow k&N drop in and also clean the MAF sensor on the intake. This will help it out a little bit.

Other then that you can not adjust the throttle on the 2az-fe manifold.

Also cleaning your injectors help bring idle back to normal.

well actually I did put in a FRAM peice-o-crap air filter recently, would that really hamper my idle speeds?

take that junk out and use a OEM one or K&N.

The fram air filters actually restrick more airflow then help and will cause your MAF to read incorrectly ultimately causing your car to idle lower...

very likely you did not close/ seal the air box properly and it has a vacuum leak. check the air box to make sure you have the air filter and the box install properly.

also, make sure your engine oil are clean and spark plugs are good

Just did the oil change, Mobile 1 5w30 and a mobil 1 oil filter, so I'm good there. I'll check my airbox, and plugs.

I noticed that today with the AC on. Mine was idling about 650-700, low enough the the engine felt like it was shaking just a little bit. It wasn't to the point where It felt like something wrong, but it did seem lower then normal.

What idel was yours at VidGameKing?

I donno what filter I have, its probably a toyota OEM one. Will the injen cai really help with this?

that is normal for a 4 cylinder. if i understand correctly, his car almost stall if he turn on the AC due to the drop of rpm and the viper alarm will active the whatever function

Well my car doesn't get near stall; it just goes below the 500RPM lower limit on the rev-protection on the viper auto-start.

The car never really looks like it goes below 500RPM when I'm at lights or whatever. The engine revs low enough that it shakes the car, but not really alarmingly shaky or too low RPMs.

I've thrown in a K&N filter into my air box, and ensured completely that the air box is properly closed. With the air conditioning at full on, and the car still warm from a 45-minute commute the car stays on and doesn't seem to have the same problem it did earlier this morning.

The RPMs still seem a bit low for my tastes but I'm sure I will get used to it if that’s what this car is supposed to be like. It's just I'm sort of used to the 1100RPM warm-up, and the 750RPM idle that my Saturn and CRX tend to have. Keeps the engine running smooth as butter...

I'm sure that after a while the K&N air filter will run a bit better, they usually are a bit stiff when you first install them, but they let more air pass after a few hours of driving, and I haven't taken the car off the driveway since I installed the new filter. I'm not sure what sort of performance I'm to expect on this car with that drop-in filter, but hopefully it will do the trick!
