LED gauge bulbs installed

LED gauge bulbs installed

Postby Kenz » Mon Aug 20, 2007 5:45 pm

Got my blue bulbs in, was an easy project. They look really nice, they put out almost a neon blue glow. Much better then the faded green that is stock.
I used the LED bulbs that have four LEDs on each side, and one in the middle. I have heard a few people say they won't work well. I have to disagree, they look brighter then it was before, and don't have any bright spots. The dimmer still works fine.

IDK why the pictures don't look very good. But in person the gauges look much smoother and more blue.

I'm going to take apart the vent controls in a few days and solder in blue LEDS. Ill post how to do that with pictures probably later this week.

oh nice, how do you take off the gauge cover? Is it just the two screws holding it together? And what bulb numbers did you use for that?

The bulbs look like this Image

They are model #194 you need 5 for a stick shift car, or 6 for an auto (I think you need an extra for autos).

You can get them on ebay, or on websites. I got mine from superbrightleds.com .

As for replacing them, its two screws to get off the trim around the gauges. The trim part is kind of tricky to pry off, but it will come out. Then four screws hold in the gauge pod.

Here is a higher resolution picture if you click on it. This is the best shot I could get.

Again, it looks different in person, its kind of an aqua color in the picture. Its a much darker blue in person.
But anyway by the picture you can see that it has no hot spots.

Here is another one not as close , I put a blue led in teh dome light as well.

report back here on how they do after long uses with them. Multiple LEDs I've installed on my car burnt out or started a flicker after a couple months of use. If that brand is good, i may switch over and use white LEDs.

BTW, the past brand ive used came from www.autoillumination.com
