New Renova Grill.....Red or Black??

Postby Chinky420 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 1:53 pm

as a fellow flame red metallic owner, i say red.

if it's painted to match it makes it look like a sahweet custom mod. if it's black, then it looks more like a generic mod (IMHO)....by generic mod, i mean it looks like it belongs more on a civic

go with red

Postby LatinUSMC » Tue Aug 14, 2007 2:04 pm

i painted mine black and clear coat..i was happy untill a cooworker aked "whats worng with your car?..the whole front grille is missing???" turs out it looks like the insides of the engine..or rdiator from far away...so i took it off and put my stock with the toyota emblem and just left the rest flat back.

so go with red....but pay a pro to color match your car..dont mickey mouse it" or DIY..its worth getting it done right..just my 2 cents. 8)

Well it's a bit too late, but here's what black looks like on red without Photoshop: Sorry if it's a bit grainy/blurry, but I was kinda tired after an event and didn't feel like redoing the shot a million times to perfect it. It looks better in the daytime, but I wasn't able to find an existing pic with the emblem in place (I only added it about a month ago).

I wanted mine in red too, but the local auto parts stores didn't have a matching shade of spray paint (and I wanted to respray my faded mirrors and resurface some scrapes on the car :bad-words: :agrue: :arg:), so with my car having flat black paint on the OEM grill for the longest time (and I was kinda used to the looks), hence why I went with a glossy black.

Explanation: Before I got the Renova, I tried, and failed, to chrome spray-paint the grille (chroming it on a budget but it didn't work  ), so I covered it up for the longest time with flat black paint (actually black primer; I was unemployed and had some sitting around from the project).

$75 bucks. not to bad, and its the exact color of my car, i gave them the paint code. The paint is perfect and it looks very professional. I'm thinkin about gettin my whole car painted at maaco now, they have a special going on.

Yes, its true. My car is black but my black grill is not even noticeable sometimes, when I'm pulling up to the house in my Honda I sometimes think what the hell happened to my grill?? I would go with red for your car, it would just finish up the front to make it look nicer and meaner at the same time.

you should outline your grill with chrome, and leave the rest black, kind like the stock grill it'll look better imo

Jake: LOL yeah that's why I went out and bought the T logo... it DOES take most of the focus off the engine compartments too (at least to me).

American: Nice thought, but the cheapest place that does vacuum metalization I found was $200+shipping; $170+shipping if you prep it yourself... Believe me, I kinda wanted to do that too (esp. with the OEM grille when I had it).

don't do it. some paint job are expensive because they really put down time to prep it... you pay for what you get. some paint jobs are cheap because they don't really spend time and work to prep the paint. when you see cars on the street with peel paints, you would know what i am talking about
