Warming up your car.

What does the owners manual say? It says no warm-up is required. I always drive gently for the first 2-3 minutes on bitter cold days, but I'm driving within 30 seconds.

Maybe if it is freezing, you might want to give it a couple of seconds to warm up the oil.

The fastest way to warm up an engine is to put a load on it, so put it in gear and go!

Just needs a couple of seconds to spread the oil everywhere.

my routine is as follows:

get in and turn on the car
roll the windows down (in the summer) to let out heat
plug in the ipod and find what i'm looking for
take down my sunshades (summer)
wait until my steering wheel is cool enough to hold onto (about 10 - 20 seconds)
get my ac/heater situation set up.
gear and steer...so i'd say it takes anywhere from 15 to 90 seconds before i'm rolling.

texas summer = no need to warm up
texas winter = don't take the engine above 2500rpm until the temp gauge shows the engine is warmed up (~4 minutes of driving)

really, if i have it all setup (windows already cracked, and setting the ipod on the way out of the house), then i take less than 10 seconds...but usually in those cases i just stopped off for something, and the engine is still warm. like, if i'm stopping at an icehouse to grab a pack of smokes, i most likely will not hesitate to go within 3 seconds of starting up.

and i don't mean to threadjack, but does anyone use a remote starter? and if so, are you satisfied with the functionalitly of it? i'm thinking about getting one since texas summers can heat the interior of the car upto 140* and higher after just a couple hours of sitting, w/o the windows cracked.

Same what chinky does.

Get in my car
Start her up
Get ipod ready
Wipe my dash off w/ a microfiber towel (wipe away dust)
Wipe my shades clean
Put shades on
Put seatbelt on
Drive off

yeah. i bought a remote start. Thats gonna be next. Ohio winters are hit or miss. Sometimes they suck and are freezing cold and snowy, sometimes they are mild and its only bad for a week.

But its gonna be fun.

Anyone got some instructions or know where I can get some?
