SE Sport v SLE? 4cyl v V6?

SE Sport v SLE? 4cyl v V6?

Postby flblue » Sat Aug 04, 2007 8:22 pm

Newbie here, have some questions, apologies if they are old or have been covered before.

I'm in the market for a 04/05 Solara. I prefer the body kit and rims on the SE sport but like the wood trim, leather and the idea of the JBL stereo on the SLE.

I read the JBL stereo was available as an upgrade on the sport but the chances of me finding one are probably slim so my question is, is the JBL setup so much more better than the stock stereo in the Sport? A good sounding system is important to me.

2nd, does the V6 have alot more noticeable power than the 4 cylinder? Is the 4 cylinder underpowered ie can't get out of the way of itself? It will be for a mixture of city and highway cruising.

Anything I should look out for in particular when looking over a used one to purchase?

Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions/opinions.

If u really cared about the sound, im sure you would put in ur own system, so getting the jbl wouldn't really be worth it
but to answer ur question jbl does sound a lot better than the stock radio
i like the cf better than the wood
and the sport can come in leather
also i say get the v6, the car is heavy for a i-4
u can get very good gas mileage on the i4 highway (most i got was 34/35 mpg) and it does do pretty well, but it does feel heavy, so id say get the v6
even on my i-4 i drive city/highway but highway is awful, rush hour on the 405 in la....doesn't count as highway....i get about 20-22 mpg total
hopefully i answered what u wanted to know

The V6 has way more power than the 4 cylinder in stock terms. The SE sport has the stiffer suspension than other trims. I would choose the V6 for the engine.

Thanks, I guess I'll look out for the V6 then. Reason I mentioned the JBL stereo is I like the stock clean look rather than an aftermarket one and I assume it would mean aftermarket speakers installed also.

Ideally I want the V6 SE Sport with the JBL and the leather seats, if anybody has one for sale lor sees one out there like that let me know :)

Thanks again.

I had to pick from a 4cyl SLE or a V6 SE Sport.

I got the SE without a doubt. I had a 4cyl Camry and I thought about swapping out the engine every time I drove it. I just couldn't stand to not be able to merge with traffic when I needed to.

Mine is exactly what you're seeking...minus the leather seats (just available in SLE trim)

yeah...you can. I have seen a couple SE sports with black leather (not perforated btw) with side airbags, so you KNOW its a factory installed option.

I actually regret buying the SLE instead of the SE Sport. I would rather have the Lip kit and the suspension than the Navigation, as much as I love the navi!

I don't think you could get leather with SE Sport in 2004...
I know for sure you could in 2006 (not sure in 05)

Mine is an 04 and I wanted leather but had to get it aftermarket since it was not an option on 2004 SE Sports

your dealer lied to you. Or you ordered online. It was an option.

I have personally seen a 2004 SE sport with leather and Side airbags.

It was an option. Maybe it was a dealer thing though, I don't know. But its possible.
