Car Depreciation is Depressing

Car Depreciation is Depressing

Postby TRAFFICBLOWS » Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:52 pm

I just went on kbb.com to check the value of my car- the dealership I bought my '99 from is sending me letters saying there is "demand for my car" blah blah blah. I can only guess it's to get me to come back in and throw down again.

It's just so depressing that the (trade-in) value has dropped to under $4k...

Say it ain't so!

oldest gimmic for dealerships to have people who either use their service or use their parts dept to come in and trade in their cars for newer vehicles.

in regd to depreciation - thank god you have a toyota....imagine if you had a ford...

yeah i've been debating the past year whether it's worth investing ~$2k on a brake/suspension/O2 sensor/MAF sensor/power steering fluid leak/rip in drivers seat/paint touch-up overhaul or just ponying up for a new ride with that coveted smell.

it came off the lot in Aug '98 so 9 yr birthday this month! honestly, though, at 130k miles, it's completely reliable... i'm just worried about the next 100k.

If it's paid off, why don't you get a new car and keep this one to tinker with and take your time fixing it up and putting a jet engine in it.

Honestly, I'd get a new car if it were me.

I know what you mean. When I test drove an STi for kicks, the guy said my car's trade-in value was $13,000 and it's an '06. If I left all the mods on, he said he'd do $14,000 though, HUGE improvement  . I told him to get lost.

Yep, I'm doing that soon....new car and keeping the Solara most likely as the daily driver. Since I've only got 60k on my '00 it'll work out. It just sucks trying to figure out what I want 8) I'm hoping someone will eventually make a twin turbo kit for the VQ35HR, because that's what I'm leaning towards! I'm just not sure in what model...

My wife just went this past weekend looking at the Lexus GX470. When they told her that her '07 RX350 with 6K miles was only worth 31K (low KBB and in poor condition) she laughed and left....

I checked the trade in value for my car (2004 2.4L SE with Automatic), it is 11,000+ dollars with only 19,000 miles.

But most dealerships try to push down the price, If I were to sell I would do private party.

The private party value for my car is 13,000+ dollars.

The dealer's value is 16,000+ dollars, almost the same price as new.

Our car's value ain't so bad compared to some of the domestics.
