seatbelt stuck SRS light on

seatbelt stuck SRS light on

Postby tony jj » Fri Jul 27, 2007 7:35 am

I have a 04 Solara. I was backing out of my driveway last night. I was pulling my seatbelt out to click it into the receiver. At the same time, I hit the brakes, to put the car in drive. The seatbelt would not pull out and got very tight. I did everything I could think of to pull it out, nothing worked. I then removed the side panel, unbolted the seatbelt housing and tripped a locking pin that held the seatbelt tight. I took a wire connector off to do this, I did put the connector back on and bolted everything in place. The seatbelt works now, but I have a SRS light that stays on. Does anyone know how to turn this light off?

Thanks
Tony jj

First, I'll congratulate you for being multi-talented :o Second, I have a manual for the car that I can check out later tonight about the SRS light. I'll let you know.

Oh! I wonder if you can check out the fuses to see if you can disconnect the SRS system for a little bit. That may work..

Either that or pull the battery power for a few. Anyway, I'll let you know tonight.

Without knowing exactly what plug you touched, it's very difficult to diagnoise this. If the plug was yellow, then it is part of the SRS system, which it probably is since the warning light is comming on. Rule #1 of working with the SRS system: NEVER TOUCH IT WHILE THE BATTERY IS CONNECTED. Even the slightest change in voltage or resistance to any of those wires can cause the airbag to go off unexpectedly. All the repair manuals state to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for atleast 90 seconds.

Anyways, after reading the service manual, my guess is that you are getting the code because the plug isn't pushed in all the way, and thus the circuit isn't compelte. reconnect that plg, hook the batter up, and see if the code returns. If it does, i sugest you take it to the dealership and have them atleast read the code. The system is smart and it will tell them exactly where the failure is.

GOOD NEWS
The light has gone off. The plug was yellow. I unhooked the battery, pulled out the yellow plug, put the yellow plug back in, hooked the battery back up, started the car , the light is now off. I think I was very lucky.

Thank you for all your help
