Anyone good in mechanics?

Anyone good in mechanics?

I have a couple of ticks with my car. Manual Solara 99 SE V6

First: Sometimes when i try to shift into gear one, it doesnt want to go in all the way, so i have to go back to neutral, release the clutch and try again.

2nd: When shifting from gear 1 to 2, there is a little step... some kinf of bump. It goes in smoothly but still, i can feel a little bump and have to put some extra light pressure.

3ed: My right front brakes squeal. When i brake they make this disturbing noise. The noise is heard for 1 sec every tier rotation. So its like as if my brakes are tilted. I can hear it when i press on the brakes lightly, when i press harder it goes away. I did a maintenance on them (100$) the noise was horrible before, now its as i described.

4th: When i go onto bumps i can hear my suspensions air coming out (deflate). A noise like "Fsss" :o) They react normally but i was wondering if this noise is normal.

5th and final: The leather around my gear is ripped... how can i change it?

I am not expecting to get an answer/solution to all the above but what every you guys know is very appreciated!

Many thanks!!

1. Sounds like synchronizer wear if I'm not mistaken; my friend's truck did that with reverse once in a while, but never happened once I double-clutched.

2. Probably the synchro too, but don't take what I say about this or #1 too seriously since I'm not good at diagnosing transmission issues... But come to think of it sounds more like a fault with the retaining mechanism (e.g. the thing that holds it in gear when you take your hand off the shifter).

3. Might be a warped/improperly machined/cracked rotor... Since you said you done maintenance on the brakes, I'm leaning towards improperly machined.

4. I get that even with new shocks too, so nothing much to be concerned about.

5. Like aleki2424 said, it's replaceable.

Check bushings. That was my problem on our 2001 Toyota Avalon.

1 and 2 both sound normal to me, the way you've described them. From time to time, I've had trouble getting into 1st gear in every manual I have ever driven. My information is a bit old, but the excuse I was given is that 1st gear isn't synchronized, so if you go into 2nd and then put it in 1st, it will slide right in. My personal experience is that that doesn't work and like you, if I just press in the clutch and try again, it works fine. Plus I think most modern cars do have synchronized 1st gears. Unless you are implying that it has gotten much worse or it happens very frequently, I wouldn't worry about it. Same thing goes with the notchy shifting. If it is really bad or has gotten noticeably worse recently, I wouldn't worry about it. I believe both conditions are caused by synchros.

You might try changing the tranny fluid too. I recommend Red line or Royal purple. Personally, I only do this every couple of years or so, but check for a leak. Maybe your transmission fluid is a little low.

Finally, make sure you change your blinker fluid. Very important.

Good luck.
