Gen 2 Tranny Cooler?

Gen 2 Tranny Cooler?

Postby ClassySolaraGuy » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:15 am

I'm thinking about throwing in a transmission cooler. I wasn't quite to sure if there is one already built into the radiator or not. Does anyone know if the Gen 2 has one?

Thx 8)

Looking over the factory service manual, on page AX–217, there apears to be reference to some sort of an oil cooler union on the transmission. My guess it is some basic factory cooler that ties into the radiator.

CSG,

Toyota uses the same method to cool the transmission fluid that the majority of other manufacturers do. There's a cooler placed 'inside' the radiator (so the tranny fluid is technically 'liquid' cooled).

If you don't tow a trailer or abuse the transmission by letting it shift excessively (seeking gears while climbing a long hill for example) there's no need for an auxiliary cooler.

If you feel you need an extra cooler make sure you size it correctly. There's such a thing as 'too cool' for lubricants.

Cheers,

Appreciate the responses! I thought there was one built into the radiator but wasn't 100% sure. I'm still going to add one just because we drive a lot & like to have fun on curvy roads.
I like your page Gadgetjq! :) Lots of good info!

Thx!
