A/C issues on '04 SE Sport Solara

As I was driving home tonight, I had the a/c on and it was set to the windshield, then I suddenly noticed that the a/c light was flashing. I then switched it to the face/foot position and it was fine then.

Have anyone experience anything similar to this? I was worried that my a/c was messed up. I did have my a/c condenser go out on me last year because it had a tiny hole.

Thanks,
Michael 8)

This was the first time it's ever done that. I also failed to mentioned that I had relocated my controls...heehee.

I'm hoping it was just some glitch.

'04 SE SPORT as well...

My A/C would "RUN" even when the A/C button light was "OFF". Anytime the fan was "ON", it was running the compressor... I believe. This was occurring when it was winter, and I was running HEAT. It also did it occassionally when I would just run FAN with VENT open.

I kept planning to have the dealership take a look... but then it stopped doing it! (I am "assuming" there is a compressor w/clutch or something... but I am pretty certain it was running A/C no matter WHAT settings I chose for awhile. It would get ICE cold even when I just wanted A/C OFF and VENT w/fan.

(I could notice the power drain, as well. :-? )

Also, this HVAC setup really draws power EVEN when you are just clicking on the FAN! I can TELL there is a transition to "drag" on the motor when it runs... anyone else notice this? (It's VERY subtle...)

Could be your compressor got wet. Mine does that if I drive through a big puddle. I have to turn it off, then back on to correct it.

Yup... same thing happened to me, in my 04. Drove through a big puddle. Turned the car off, dried off what I could see under the hood... light came back on steady green, instead of flashing.

Hey, funny you say that.

'05 SE Sport

It's been raining cats and dogs around DFW for weeks and I've expereinced the same thing. Usually when splashing through deep puddles of water would make the compressor turn off and the A/C light blink. When I pushed it off, then back on, it worked fine.

I hope this is not a serious problem. Maybe it's normal operation? Were you driving in the rain or water puddles?
