Brake pad

Brake pad

Postby shobo » Fri Jun 01, 2007 1:15 pm

I just hit 100,000 miles on my 2004 solara and I need to change the brake pads. Can anyone suggest any good brake pad? I was thinking of going with ceramic material; something like Akebono brake pad.

Does brake pads even make that much of a difference? I thought it was the rotors or the big brake kits that does more of the improving in braking. I just always get the Toyota OEM brake pads.

I got mine with the new rotors from R1 Concepts

I've been very pleased with the performance and wear - even on drilled/slotted rotors.

^^^ Damn! Those prices aren't bad. When it's time to paint the cals I may have to swap rotors. That would be easier than trying to clean up the ones I have. Can they machine a slotted rotor when it's time to change the pads?

In all honesty...

If you want stronger stopping power in the long haul, carbon metallic is the way to go.

Do your research, and you will see that some pads require a warm up period before they wok @ 100%...

If you have slotted rotors... DO NOT use EBC kevlar pads... I had them on my car after ceramics, and they overheated too easily, causing erratic braking (Not cool!)

I have cross drilled/slotted rotors on my ride, and currently Im liking the Carbon/Metallic pads.

Always a pro/con with these things, the pads are the only "tuneable" part of our braking system. Metallic pads create more brake dust, handle more abuse, and need to be heated to work right.

Oem pads are great, but for spirited driving, they will wear out quicker.

Stick to AXXIS, HAWK, AKEBONO pads, and you will not regret the choice, upgrade your brakelines to Goodrich stainless stell braided lines, and upgrade to DOT 4 (currently using racing formula by ARE)... your brakes will stop on a dime, and give you some change.

my 2 pennies.

Currently the number one brake pad out on the market is Performance Friction. They make a carbon metallic pad that reduces noise and increases braking performance (both stop and feel).

As far as the brake lines are concerned...EHHH, I don't buy it...unless you increase the size of your calipers to like a 2-6 piston caliper it's not going to improve much besides appearance.
