Metal + Chrome Polish works even better; toothpaste didn't do anything except give my grill minty fresh breath (and by breath I kinda mean when the radiator fan kicks in and grill... You get the idea).

The Flitz ball and their polishing compound worked great for me. Put the Flitz ball on a cordless drill and let it do all the work. The wipe what is left off with a soft towel.
