The floor mats don't match!

The floor mats don't match!

Postby HarryAdventurer » Wed Jun 20, 2007 6:33 pm

Took delivery of my Solara last Monday (6/11) and discovered the mats I had paid for, (a $200 mandatory option), were missing. No biggie, they ordered replacements. Went to the dealer tonight to get my plates, registration and the mats. Took the mats and installed them. The carpet is dark brown and the mats are light brown. Even lighter than the seats and plastic. I decided to uninstall the one on the driver's side while I contemplated this.

I pulled into a parking lot to go shopping and discovered a Solara the exact duplicate of mine. A cosmic blue metallic SE with Ivory interior. His carpet was dark brown and his mats were a perfect match. I returned the mats to the dealer.

My question to the forum is this: Are there two different shades of brown carpet, say, one for the fabric trim and one for the leather? Or did Toyota change the carpet color somewhere along the line? Or is the factory trying to palm off a manufacturing error on me?

Sorry about the length of the post, but I'm starting to feel a little disillusioned about the whole Toyota tradition of quality.

thanks

Doesn't take much to disillusion you.

Well, not only that, but the guy putting on my license plates was using a cordless drill with a screwdriver bit and the bit kept slipping off the screw. Minor things, I admit, but still disconcerting.

Something more

Postby JMSinMaryland » Wed Jun 20, 2007 8:55 pm

Here's something even more disconcerting. I was driving home from work today and saw a new Ford Taurus on the side of the road with their hood up, silly enough, it crossed my mind that American cars are so unreliable, that they should figure out a way of building them without hoods to save owners/techs time, I guess it didn't help that I worked from 7-7, but that's the first thing that popped in my mind

So many of them in the shop...you have to work 12 hours?? lol jk

Don't blame the incompetence of the dealership.
There is a reason you bought a Toyota.

LOL!! I totally knew where that was going once I saw Taurus. We had one back in the day and it was a piece. We're talking almost as bad as a Mitsubishi. Err..an unreliable Ford... :)

Welcome to SG and I hope you get your mat situation fixed! If worst comes to worst, you can buy your back mats from me. They're dark grey and come pre-stained so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself! :)

Apparently it is a manufacturing error. If you look at the picture posted at http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=34023, you can clearly see the light colored floor mats on a dark colored carpet.

Honestly, in the collected experiences of everyone here, has anyone ever seen an oem floor mat that didn't match the carpet. I have asked the dealer to order the dark stone mats instead. They appear to be darker than the ivory, (tan), ones, but not as dark as the dark charcoal.

Seems like the best compromise.

Like I posted in the thread that was linked, I have the same interior. The mats in that photo are stone according to the stealership.

There are 3 colors of floor mats that I am aware of. Tan, Stone and Charcoal. The Stone and Charcoal are gray and will probably clash more then the tan. I wonder if all the 2.5's have "coordinating" color mats instead of matching?

Is it "stone" or "dark stone"? The pamphlet I picked up at the dealer shows the interior of a SE coupe in dark stone. It clearly shows the mats are the same dark gray as the carpet. I have seen other Solara's and other cars of every make. I have never seen an OEM floor mat that didn't try to be a perfect match of the carpet. In fact, I have never seen a light floor mat on a dark carpet ever.

My bad on the colors, they are Ivory, Dark Stone and Dark Charcoal.

I just placed a big order with TRDparts4u, including the dark charcoal mats. when the stuff gets here I will post some pictures comparing them to the Dark Stone.

I am looking at the same brochure and the SE Dark Stone floor mats match, but the mats don't in my SLE Ivory with Leather in the picture above it. It "seems" the carpet matches in cloth SE, but not leather SLE. This makes no sense to me which is why I called the dealer on it when I picked it up. My Dark Stone rag top cover is dark like the carpet, not like the mats. I have no idea if Toyota is color blind when it comes to mats or do this intentionally with the leather interior??????

I would still rather drive this sit in a Taurus

I think that someone ordered mats from the vendor and put in the wrong color swatch by mistake. Rather than dispose of tens of thousands of mats, and order the correct color, (a move that would cost them millions), they decided to bluff it out and pretend it's a cool style.

That is SO not true...black doesn't always match black.

Back on topic...I have a dark grey interior, not sure of the exact name. My floor mats and carpet are the exact same color. I think they are bullshitting you with that crap. They probably bought some cheap offbrand and has someone embroider Solara on them to save money
