LED scanner help

I bought one of those LED scanners last week after my car was broken into so i can at least make it look like more of an alarm system then stock - any one installed one before? finding the LED wire to the back of the gauges has proven rather tricky.

Dude... Just go out and get yourself an aftermarket alarm system; it'll be more worth it in the long run.

if you bought a scanner with 3 wires (which they usually only come wired that way) the 3 wires should be: Red (12V), Black (ground), and Yellow (Ignition)

YOU CANNOT connect the scanner to and LED light. won't work. if you're hooking it up without an alarm, you need to connect those wires to each source respectively. that's the only way to do it WITHOUT an alarm.

that's the thing: you CAN'T.

unless you can find a wire for Toyota's OEM alarm that grounds when the alarm is turned on, you're gonna have to wire that Yellow wire from the scanner to ignition.

again, you can't connect a scanner and run it off a single LED.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie here, from Canada (french).

I would like to know where it is easier to connect the 3 wires? I bought a white scanner from Ebay and I'm wondering where to connect it. From the radio? Under the driver steering?

Thanks for your help!
I bought my Solara 2 weeks ago, I love it. Fast, very agile, and great looking. Few modifications for now, but who knows the future.

welcome. read above man. just get an aftermarket alarm. I wanted to do the same thing, but then thought to myself, what's the point>? there is no real subsitute for security of a vehicle. Get an alarm system. If u had a light only in your car and it got broken into, how would you know. aftermarket alarms nowadays are pretty advanced and pricey as they go up. I recently just upgraded mine and I say it's well worth it. I have a little blue scanner on mine :). Imho opinion, get an alarm, no sense in having a light there with nothing to back it up..
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

Hi guys,

I received my "streetglow LED Scanner" yesterday and installed it.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Streetglow-White-LED ... otohosting

I don't have an alarm on the car. I wanted a "white" LED scanner, it's rare (everybody got the blue or red) and I don't like to be like everybody. I don't wanted the "batman" model, I prefer a "stick" model.

My scanner come with 3 wires, ( 12V, ground, alarm(-) ).
The alarm needs a "ground" when you want the LED to blink.
Some models blue and red that I saw (the ugly batman model) come with the "ignition" wire, it's smart and much easier than with the "alarm(-)" for the people who don't have a real alarm.

I used a relay and did a little shema to use the "ignition" wire to make the "alarm(-)". It was quite simple. I took a cable with 3 wires inside, plug it behind the factory radio and hide the cable to the LED scanner on the mirror.

Yellow-blue: 12V
Brown: Ground
Gray: Ignition

My radio wasn't working after my installation, I was a little bit anxious that I broke the radio cable, but luckly it was only a f****** fuse again ! lol I know It's better to unplug the battery but it was 5 PM and it was starting to be dark, so I needed to be fast.

If some people here wants the shema for the scanner witht he "alarm" wire, just PM me.
