how was the wiring around it? that happened to my friend, turns out like a wire shorted or something..

try replacing the wires for better quality ones. how long did you have your set up that way? maybe it melted little by little over time.

Sounds like your voicecoil's beginning to go, or already gone... This will sometimes ground out your connection and cause extra heat... It can also create temporary high-voltage situations with your amplifier by sending it power feedback.

You may still be receiving bass on a DVC sub with only one voicecoil operating... I wouldn't run it any more as it is or you risk damaging your amplifier or potentially causing a fire... Take the sub out and have it looked at by a local audio shop.. if they're cool, they'll take a quick look at it for free and tell you it can be fixed or it's shot. Sounds like, to me, it may be time for a new sub...

sounds like someone burned some voice coils.. which is usually caused by heat, which is caused by distortion so you might wanna re-tune your amp

If it started smoking like that its the VC no doubt.

Take it out, and look at the cone/pole piece that goes from the cone to the inside of the magnet. Let us know how it sounds when slightly pressing down on the cone and if its any mixed colors (ie, red and black/burnt)

You had it wired properly in parallel configuration. I still think it's your voicecoil...

Well after trying to figure out what your running this is what I see.

Youve got your Infinity Dual 4 ohm sub that should be wired like this to get a 2ohm load on your amp.
Image

Your 500/1 will do 500-700 watts from 4ohm to 1.5 ohm loads, its adaptive to them all. And wattage also depends on the cars electrical system (alternator, battery, if the car is running, thickness of your power and grounds, etc...)

But the problem is that your sub, perfect 12d vq can only take 400 watts. You could have been sending it 100-300 watts more then it could take.

The gauge speaker wire really isnt as much concern as the power thats going through it, as long as you have a decent size, 12-10 your fine. It really wont cause the sub to get burn up, espically at the VC, which is where all the power goes.

I think you were running too much power to your sub, had your gains too far up (ie, gains are not a volume control).

Next time ask around, a couple people on here, including myself, have played around with car audio systems for a few years and know the proper steps to be taken to ensure equipment doesnt end up in the trash can...live and learn

At least your 500/1 didnt blow...
