Sorry - guess I never re-posted the link (was originally buried in another thread) ;)

http://www.globalperformanceparts.com/p ... s_id=24519

*CAUTION: After a month+ and a few thousand miles, its pretty obvious this thing was NOT totally designed for the Gen 2 Solara - there are design and fitment issues!!

The bushings/clamps don't line-up properly, which causes some creaking/squeaking/groaning when moving slow. Putting fresh Lithium Grease in there helps some, but not entirely.

Also it hits the frame at times when you go over bumps of hit holes/dips in the freeway.

This is all in addition to the hole size issues and installation hassles mentioned earlier. I really think Whiteline engineers need to go back and work out some kinks in this one!!

WARNING!!! DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!!! :o

Global Performance Products has FUGGED UP by listing this part!!

As suspected, the sway bar was NOT made for our Solara, but instead, a Camry! After going back and forth with the manufacturer (Whiteline) they concluded that GPP sold me a part that DOESN'T EXIST!!

"BTF83 is listed for Toyota Camry A-MCV36R, not MCV31 which is actually a different chassis. Looking at your photos and the suspension manual, it is clear that BTF83 is very different to your original swaybar. Frankly, it is so different as listed in your first email that I am surprised that it has even been installed on your car.

Unfortunately, I can only advise you that you remove your swaybar and re-install your original unit, however since you have repainted your Whiteline swaybar in a different colour, I am not sure if your supplier will be able to process a refund for you. Perhaps you can talk to your supplier for possible other alternatives, but at this stage we regretably are unable to help you.

Let us know if there is anything else that we may be able to assist."

So I have inquired about how they might go ahead and make one for our rides, but they said I have to talk with GPP about it since they are the only authorized US importer for that line of parts (but hinted that they typically want an order of 20+ parts to do it).

Luckily, I haven't yet flamed GPP about this yet - though I have CC'd them on all my correspondence with Whiteline, so they know what's going on right now.

Let's hope we can use this at our advantage and get them to push through a GB order to get Whiteline to design a REAL working sway bar for our rides!! This mis-hap may turn out to work in our favor after all...

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!

*UPDATE:

After going back and forth with both Whiteline and Global Performance on this issue, it looks like they're ready to move forward with some R&D... so guess who's gonna front the $$ to get it going?! Sh!t - I gotta do something!!

Anyway - this is the last post in this thread... next thread will be a "Group Buy" attempt, but I doubt we can get 20 people to commit to this mod, no matter how cheap they end up being for us. I've come to see there just aren't that many serious modders in this forum, after the weak response to the headers/Y-pipe GB. Sad - but oh well, guess I'll be buying a bunch of front sway bars and selling them on eBay soon! ;)

** FINAL UPDATE:

Bad news folks...

Whiteline decided NOT to pursue development of the front sway bar for the Solara for several reasons... not the least being the difficulty in installation, making it a barrier for most enthusiasts to install themselves.

They are sending my OEM bar back and want the "wrong" bar they sent me back - which I will do as soon as I can get the OEM bar installed again. I have no idea what THAT'S going to cost me now!

I really love the handling my car has as it is, but I can tell it's doing damage to my control arms and frame because of the fitment issues. I'm sure the ride difference will seem really soft to me again once I go back. Guess its time to save up for those COs now.

It's a real shame this won't happen now... more than just bummed about it. :(
