ENGAGEMENT of HVAC FAN precipitates POWER LOSS...

Sebas,

I see what you are saying AND what Jeff is saying.

My take on it:

- FAN OFF (Don't want electrical "drain" on motor)
- VENTS on "FRESH"
- HEAT on HIGH

Jeff, you are CORRECT about the heat drawn THRU the heater core... HOWEVER, in MANY applications, the heater CORE is VALVED and this determines weather coolant ALSO flows thru it during vehicle operation... it CAN help dissipate heat a little better... OR the HEATER CORE is ALWAYS circulated thru, but when the vents are set on FRESH, then OUTSIDE air can circulate THRU the heater core and help dissipate heat... ALSO, the DEGREE of valve opening... (whichever type is used... or both...) is impacted by the HEATER TEMP setting... so on the HIGHEST level, albeit HOTTER in the cabin, helps dissipate SOME heat from the circulating coolant.

SUMMARY:

Run your 1/4's with TEMP AT HIGH, VENTS on FRESH, and FAN OFF.

This is your "optimum" setting, in my opinion.

^^ No kidding... ;)

Perhaps it's just an interpretation thing on both mine/Sebas parts, but he was relating to engine compartment air - and I was directing the heated water to the heater core... neither of which is in any way related to your OP so what does it really matter? LOL!

Seriously though - I've actually gone through Phoenix in the summer with an old Datsun and had to crank the heater on to keep the engine from overheating (allowing the coolant to have one more pass at radiating through the heater core) - old skewl trick that really cooks your NUTZ!) :o

I can set the TEMP AT HIGH on the right button
I can put the FAN OFF on the left
But what is VENTS on FRESH (I figure it's the middle button...)
Does it is the bottom options on the middle button ?? Must be...
